Are rhinos still useful for Khorn with the new (Well new to me) 'blow up tank = pinned' rule? I dont want to go out and drop 160 bucks on 4 rhinos if they suck. I know smoke launchers help, but still just want to make sure it isnt better to just run them up instead of puttin them in tank... money is tight :oP
When all else fails... charge it with a Tyrant.
Personally, I would only use rhinoes as mobile walls to shield my Berzerkers from incomming fire and let the Berzerkers themselves walk behind the rhinoes, because of Frenzy, there is a 33% chance of them jumping out of the rhino and start running instead and that makes me think that transports are not a very good idea for units with the Mark of Khorne.
If im on quite a terrain heavy map i sometimes use them as shields
Well, any way that units with a Mark of Khorne can get into combat, quickly, is good. The earlier they can charge, the better for you. I'm not sure who's FAQ it was, but a line that sticks out in my head is to think of every turn that the bulk of your army is not in close combat as a turn you're losing. Harsh words, but very true.
Blood Rage isn't even the real problem with Rhino's in my mind, it's the fact that they make an already expensive squad of berzkerers (who, between a relatively large favored size, the almost obligiatory Furious Charge, frags, chainaxes, and a pimped out Aspiring Champion are really, really expensive!) even more pricy, and an even sweeter target for a bassy shot. I'm not saying that Khorne Berzerkers aren't worth every penny, but the way I run them my average berzerker is 24 points... for another point I could have a grey knight. And, additionally there's almost 70 points of Aspiring Champion goodness. Can I really afford to spend another 45 points on a rhino? (I say 45, because if a took a 50 point rhino, I'd take off the 5 point talismen of burning blood) And that's before upgrades on the rhino btw, like smoke launchers or extra armor. And then, all of the sudden, I've paid about 300 points for 8 guys and a truck. That's going to make it hard to make their points back.
However, rhinos are more reliable then blood rage. Blood rage needs to roll to move, a rhino (so long as it's not damaged) can always move. And, given the proper upgrades, it can pretty much stay continously moving towards the enemy. And then it's just a matter of disgorging the berzerkers into the enemy line. Rhinos can also in a pinch be used to block firing lanes to keep your 'zerkers safe from pesky plasma guns. If you're feeling creative, you can even have the rhino serve in some sort of close quarters capactiy to help your berzerkers along, either with a crusher to tank shock irritating squads (or light armor, you can do that btw), or with the living vehicle upgrade so it can bind big, juicy targets in close combat until your marines finish their current foes so they can rush over and finish them off. Depending on your foe, there are literally endless possibilities of fun ways to pester your opponent and keep him off balance with used up Rhinos.
Personally, I don't use Rhinos, because I take 5 squads of 8 berzerkers, and there's enough numbers there that I can rely on each squad safely finding a nice collection of unkilled creatures and solve that problem. It's not because it's a bad idea, it just doesn't fit my style. (I get my tread fetish satisfied playing with my armored company)
