I created my 1st ever NL list and posted it over in the list ( http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...1850-list.html (Starting Nightlords (1850 List)) ) section. Feel free to look there. I have serious questions about one of the units though.
6x AC Chosen w/Demonic Flight, Demonic Visage, 3x Demonic Str, 3x Dual LC, 2x PF/BP
Infiltrate, Furious Charge, Stealth Adept
The whole thing comes to about 451 points. It would often be accompanied by my lord as well.
My question is simply, whether using this many points in a single unit is effective, or whether I would be better off breaking down this unit in favor of either (A)2 more troop units and bulking out my havocs, or (b)A second 8 man raptor unit and bulking out said havocs, or entirely different use?
Is playing with this expensive a unit really worth the points investment or is just a point sink/fire magnet?
well normaly that would be a definit no because if someone say fired a basilisk shot on them it just earned back 4 x it's points
Hero has it, really..
It's not as bad as it looks. Infiltrate means they should be able to get stuck in right away and inflict some damage (I would have taken speed not flight to facilitate this better.) But I think you're sorely overestimating the effect these guys are going to have on the overall game. Their only real use is going to be taking out any similarly overtooled, overpriced units in your opponents army, which won't often be there because most players don't field overpriced units. All in all, they're a nice shock unit, a great psychological weapon, and scary as hell to your opponents, but a 500ish point shock troop unit is asking for trouble. It's a suicide squad which you can't afford to lose, and therefore, it has little point to my mind.
As an alternative, you could try infiltrating raptors led by a daemonic flight chaos lord, or even flying possessed. Both would be more cost effective (albeit only marginally) than this unit.
