Would everyone say Oblits are worth their pts cost?
Also how good are they in your opinion in an every day battle?
I'm thinking about getting some. I know they are hard, but just wondering if its worth taking 9 of them in an IW army....
Also, are they only tougness 4 when it comes to instant death? I read somewhere about them being instant killed by lasscannons.....

I'm pretty sure instant death is a definite possibility with str8 or higher so lasscannons are a problem.
I would. No other unit in the game has twin linked meltas, and who else can lay down 6 shots from rapid firing twin-linked plasma guns?Originally Posted by [Immortal]They are one of the most flexible units in the game. killed by anything S8 or higher.
If you have the first printing of the Codex it says they are T5, but this has been changed in later printings.Originally Posted by numberofthebeastxxx
The Errata however is not to be found on the GW-site anymore.
In the first printing there are another couple of things that has been changed in later printings, if anyone has a link to the Errata it would be great to have in the Chaos Article section.
Just after the armoury (I'm terrible at remembering page numbers) there is a direct quote that says their base toughness is always used for insta-kill purposes in all cases except stature.
Yes oblits will make their points back. My friend used 2 and they didnt arrive 'till turn 4 for deep-strike but they landed right on the objective. YOU try dislodging 2 oblitz when most of your army is busy/dead that late in the game.
Check out my Codex: Farmyard Animals here!
If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
I use 3 slots of 2 in an IW army, main reason for this is using 9 leaves the opponent with a bitter feeling. I have used 3 per slot in games over 3000 pts mainly as any army should be able to put together a way to counter them. If your just starting i would recommend starting with 4 total that way you can use them in squad of 2 or try them out in a squad of 3.
I feel that Obliterators are wonderful and more than likely will make their points back. They are versatile with weapons options and can kill any tank in the game almost effortlessly. Some chaos player whine about the instant killability of them, however considering the cost of what they do, and the weapon options its a minor draw back.
I recommend converting instead of buying the GW model. With a little creativity you can come up with something original that can easily fit into any army fluff.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I'd recommend units of one myself.
They're a powerful unit, but I just don't think it's worth overdoing it. It's like building an army made up of terminators, sometimes you'll win, and sometimes you'll lose, and the difference between the two depends more on your opponents list composition than anything else.
Obliterators are a great unit in many ways, and just because they're not the 'good against everything' beasts they used to be does not invalidate their use. It does mean that, like any other unit, you have to think carefully about how they fit into your army, and what tactics you will employ with them, and not just take them for the hell of it or because they're good at everything.
Well i guess at the end of the day they still have nice stats and are still T5. I think there worth their pts cost for sure. If i did feild 9 of them, i wouldn't take any Defilers though, i'm a big lover of Havocs, and so would take a couple of units of them.
I can just imagine deep striking 9 Oblits onto the field and giving a expensive SM squad hell by shooting 9 twin linked rapid fire plasma gun shots at them. I mean what other unit has that kinda firepower?! 18 twin linked plasma shots is just lovely.
