I'm playing around with the idea of adding a blastmaster to a sonic blaster squad. and just
using them as a shooty only unit and forgoing the assault ability of the SB.
Can any slaanesh players give advice on wether this is a good tactic or better leaving the BM for things like havocs.
I am a firm believer that Blastmaster belong in each and every Troops squad and (usually) not used in Havoc squads.
In a Troops squad, the Blastmaster gives the squad a significant bonus without actually taking anything away from the squad. It can still be used as an assault weapon, or be used as an impromptu tank busting weapon if that's your need. So even if the squad is totally equipped with Sonic Blasters, the chance to pin or take out a tank is often worth the loss of a single Sonic Blaster.
In Havoc squads, there are often better weapons. The Missile Launcher is a better choice since the Blastmaster lacks the critical AP3 to use against MEQ armies, and the Autocannon has a higher return rate against Skimmers and lightly armoured vehicles.
I agree and disagree with Caluin.
I agree that they should probably be put in each troops squad. Especially because of the fact that they have the option to move and shoot. And not only do they help with anti tank, but their higher strength from the assault shot can help you wound moderately tough stuff. Also, if you don't move, even if you aren't shooting at a vehicle, you get that high strength blast to hit troops and it really adds to the overall value of the squad because against certain armies you can maybe pin them.
I disagree that they are a poor choice for Havoc squads. In fact I think they are one of the meanest havoc squads around. Give them tank hunters, so against vehilcles you are shotting with a lascannon equivalent, and the main point, the main strenght and difference really is that, compared with most Havoc squads, they have the option to be a mean anti troop choice WHILE moving. I can't tell you how many times I've had a SM missile launcehr squad and what I wanted to shoot at was all out of sight, so I had to move em, wasting all those points for a turn. With these guys you can move around more and have more flexiblility. It's too bad they're not AP 3, but you can't have everything.
ps. They also fit in the Slaanesh army theme better, and they look cooler.
Ooooh that means having to hunt on e bay probably to find someone selling
blastmaster weapons. mind you I'm seriously looking at converting a lascannon
into one thru some modifications, I reckon I can get it looking WYSIWYG
Thanks for the advice, I might just do that as I lack some firepower at the moment.
lotsa troops no real heavy weapons.
That's a good idea. I got 4 blastmasters and 14 sonicblasters with the extra arms for half off of retail. They were new too. I thought about converting stuff but I don't really have any bits and the ones they make are good lookin'. I still have to convert my bikes to sonic blasters. I don't know how I'll do that yet. I have extra sonic blasters and I was going to just have them holding them, but then they wouldn't fit on the bikes.
thanks for the advice.
as for the sb on bikes, hmmm, maybe a piece of wire behind the steering column to support the weapons then have them resting on top of the handlebars??
My blastmasters are converted multi-meltas.
Basicly cut of the end and replace it with a speaker or one of the gargoyle heads off of the vehicle spures.
Not only are they really cool models (my faviorate from the SM devestator range)... but the coolest part (by that i most convient) is that there is no chaos equivilent. So its obvious if you have a multimelta looking thing in your army that it is not a multi-melta it is something else...
Converting lascannons could lead to questions which are las cannons and which are blastmasters unless your army has no lascannons or the las-cannons are that excessilvy converted.
hmm good point lackofbettername.
though I reckon some deft converstion would leave them without a doubt.
(thinking of my kareoke blaster from the bizarre deamon weapons thread on i think its the rules page.)
I actually feel the blastmaster is the only really worthwhile sonic weapon. The sonic blaster is decidedly mediocre.
That said, I'd probably field an ideal squad of 1 blastmaster, 2 sonic blasters, 2 bolt pistols and cc weapons and a champion with a power weapon. They can shoot, they can resist assault, and they can take wounds far better than a six man sonic blaster squad.
And, lackofbettername, those are great. Definately some of the better 'cheap' sonic blasters I've seen. I still prefer the originals though, so I used them.
