Hey, i'm new to Csm and i'm wonderin whether i should go with word bearers or alpha legion? i'm looking for an infantry killer army *cough cough tyranids/orks cough cough*
i know i should include meltas and flamers but any anti horde army advice would be awesome
I dont know if I would say that either of those is a good horde killing army. I think a better choice would be something like Iron Warirors. They have large amounts of heavy weapons, plus obliterators, PLUS they can take a basilisk or a vindicator. Load them up with autocannons, h. bolters, ord. and the such, and hordes should go down quick.
If you want to get away from chaos undivided, maybe look at the thousand sons. They have slow and purposeful, so can move and fire heavy weapons, and they have some pretty awesome gifts/psychic powers.
max squads of zerks with furious charge and watch the hordes get slaughtered

Anti-Horde army ?
Death Guard with blight grenades and Nurgle's Rot. Manreapers for SC. Is trully simple.
But you want something between Word Beares and Alpha Legion, so I guess Death Guard is not your option. Well then both can be tooled for anti horde armies versy standard, flamers etch. blah blah, but with Word Bearers you can use Plaguebearers(best deamon agaisnt horde armies and is the main Nurgle daemon - Death Guard, surpise! - ) in mass numbers, so WB gives you an edge against Alpha Legion. Anyway my point is, if you want a pure anti-horde Chaos Space Marine Legion, Death Guard is the best choise, end of story.

There's nothing that the Alpha Legion can do that the Word Bearers can't other than cheap infiltration and Cultists. Neither of those help against Horde armies, so the Alpha Legion is at a distinct disadvantage in that case. So if it's between just those two, then go Word Bearers and take a few Plaguebearers. Just be sure to keep them seperated from the rest of your forces and you'll do fine.
Flamers would also work quite good as well, since both 'Nids and Orks have a severe lack of armour saves.
