Says in the codex that it is a heavy weapon, does that mean if I move I cannot fire it? Or does it matter since it is vehicle mounted?
Also, would a havoc launcher be effective on a predator with twinlinked-las and 2 heavy bolter sponsons?
yes it follows the rules for heavy weapons but since its only vehicle mounted it doesnt matter.
Ok now for the far more serious matter of that predator. Lascannons hunt vehicles, heavy bolters hunt infantry. Since you can only shoot at 1 of them per turn this is a pointless configuration. The best is an autocannon and side lascannons as you have a relatively cheap and nasty tank killer. AV12 just dies to it and it can still easily crush AV13.
If you vs a landraider or are paranoid about anti-vehicles then all lascannons can work.
Autocannon and heavy bolters are fairly rare as for that kind of support most people take a dreadnought or defiler but preds can still work for it. This is the only kind of configuration that works with a havoc launcher.
A lascannon/HB's is just terrible as it has less firepower and is more expensive than the autocannon/ sponson lascannon option.
Autocannons work best with either. So whatever you take on the sponsons is your choice, just don't change the autocannon.
I agree with LordLink, he hit the nail pretty much on the head, I do seem to have a bit more of a preference for all las cannon pred than him, but then my night lord rely on these for anti tank
Everything you have been told is a lie!
a top mounted lascannon is twin linked so thats an advantage.
Aye, preds with all round las cannons are, for my money, the best tankhunters in the game
Everything you have been told is a lie!
i am going iron warrior and have plenty las for tanks  so i wanted my predator to be an antitroop choice.
i can see the autocannon argument and it is cheaper. but my main opponent is going to be a SM army so i thought las/hb would be a better choice for anti-troop because i can get at least 1 guarantee'd kill from the twin linked las also if i have autocannon/lascannon or all lascannon, the vehicle has to remain stationary and i wanted to keep the ability to move 6 inches option opn
the pred is always going to be hitting troops unless there is nothing to shoot at. BUT i'll have to sit and think about this one
however so far the thread still doesnt answer my question would a havoc launcher on a predator be effective if i had an anti-troop predator (autocannon, hb sponsons)? or any combination for the predator in this matter?

yes it could be quite devastating. AV13 means enemy missiles are unlikely to penetrate it so consider the following. Daemonic possession means it will always be able to attack the enemy. Weapon destroyed will only blow off 1 of its 4 guns and wont stop it. Immoblised doesnt matter due to long range. Therefore only a 6 will actually damage your predator. Meanwhile its shooting back with 12 shots per turn. If your vsing eldar you will devastate an entire aspect squad each turn with very little retaliation. Same goes for tau and guard.
PS: for armies like night lords all lascannoned preds are fine. Its just that the AC/HB pred will kill the 1 tank that you get to shoot at most of the time. Isn't 2 lascannons cheaper than upgrading an autocannon to twin-linked lascannon? I think its only 5 pts difference between them and 2 lascannons is always better than a twin-linked one.
My only issue with that is for the price of dropping the TLLC to an Autocannon, I could've bought Daemonic Possession for the tank and given it quite a bit more staying power. That's not everyone's cup of tea, however. I do acknowledge the power of the 3x Lascannon Predator.Originally Posted by Cheredanine
Whatever you do, just don't go with TLLC/Heavy Bolters. Anything else will work, just not that configuration.
