I'm starting pure DG and was contemplating including Havocs. What gives me pause is the effectiveness of having 4 special weapons in a squad. My contention for Meltaguns is, for tank hunting, what can 4 meltaguns do that 2 in a normal squad cannot? As for Plasmaguns, that is simply alot of overheats. So, my question to any chaos player not just pure DG players is, are they useful? Thanks.
4 melta guns are alot better than 2 because they have a better chance of taking out bike squads(including attack bikes), land speeder(s), LR's, walkers, and HQ's. Not to mention they're almost guaranteed to destroy any vehicle they come across.Originally Posted by Cmac2786

Death guard havocs.
They can be very nice, but the problem is, the special weapons in havoc squads are more expensive than regular squads.
You have to ask yourself, is the number of extra shots worth it?
What you gain from having extra special wapons is that the chances that you will cripple or at least hurt whatever you shoot at go up considerably. When shooting at that landraider, would you prefer to roll 4 x 2d6 for penetrating and destroying chances, or 2. And more importantly, is it worth the extra cost to the squad for that security. Then again, you could just as easily have two squads shooting at the same target too.
The bad thing I see about plasma in DG is that it sort of takes away one of the nice advantages that nurgle marked units have, the extra toughness. The plasma overheat doesn't care what the T of the model is, it simply wounds bypassing the advantage granted by father nurgle. An overheating DG will die just as easily as a normal CSM. Personally I don't like stuff that just negates an advantage granted to me by the army I play.
Though, there will be times that you will be surely glad that you had 8 shots of plasma at that incoming terminator squad, and who cares if you overheat and kill 2 DG marines if you wipe the termies out!
So, it comes down to, havoc squads in DG are specialized even further to hit specific targets because they're more expensive, and there's nothing one havoc squad with special weapons can do that two regular swuads can't.
Personally, I would field multiple squads of DG to get the same number of special weapons than one squad. That's just the way I look at it though.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!

Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment.

Death Guard does not have access to heavy weapons except on vehicles, or chosen I guess.
7 Death Guard Havocs, 4 Meltaguns and Inflitrate.
That's all I'm saying and you need to know.
Chosen can't have them either. They still have the MoN, so they're restricted to assault weapons just like any other DG unit.Originally Posted by Grim Psyker
I'm sure this was mentioned before, probably by me, but why not try out putting them in a rhino with an AC toting a Kai Gun. Drop out the bag, smattering of fire, no more enemy. Nothing could take that sort of punsihment and stand strong; weak hordes would crap themselves and there wouldn't be enough of something like marines left to return the attack. Hell, you could always give the AC a Plague sword and kill the rest of them up close. If there are any left in range, that is.
Yes, Kai gun would be useful and could be good in a chosen squad but does stop you using great daemonic weapons like the manreaper.
And if they are the only vehicle in range? This is just a suggestion of what it can kill and the land speeder tornado is one of the greatest infantry killers, why wouldn't you want to kill it?Originally Posted by Farseer Benillius

Though in that quote he says to shoot it down with heavy weapons which nurgle doesnt have access to.
