I know this may seem stupid, but how do you come up with names for Chaos Lts and such-like? Whenever I've tried, but just shoving random letters together so it's speakable, it just sounds rubbish.
Well my Daemon Prince Kal Malignan was named:
Kal from a fantasy novel by david eddings meaning king and god
Malignan a twisted variation of the word malignant.
Tell me what legion you play and some background for your character and I'll give you a name.
A good way to do it is think up a word that would describe the Lieutenant or Lord, and look it up in Latin or Greek.
For example, my Nurgle Daemon Prince is called "Inc'ratus", which is altered from "Incaratus", which means "Unhealable". Sort of what Nurgle are...
Or you could go for other stuff, and add "Us" on the end. My Lieutenant in the same army is called "Ebolus". Obviously Ebola with "us" on the end to give it a name.
My Khornate Daemon Prince, I can't remember what he's called, but it's a mixture of the words, "I will take your spleen" translated in Greek.
Aha thanks all. One of my mates knows really good Ancient Greek, and we do Latin at school. That certainly helps.
I really don't know how to describe him though; he hasn't been in a battle yet.
And I'm Iron Warriors btw.
you should look at the name generators *HERE*
there's quite a few of them, with something for most situatons, for Chaos you'd probably want to try the "Darkness/Evil" section (specifically the "Evil Sounding Name Generator")
Mysterious Member of the ANZAC Clan
ok a list of random names on the spot:
Hope these spark your imagination, feel free to use any of them. i quite like Scipio Animus.
Thanks all of you again.
Love the name generator mpdscott
when naming chaos, remember that they were marines once, so i try not to make them too evil. my arch heretic,OCCISOR ANGELUS PRODITOR, is latin ,it means Fallen angel traitor. i think ots pretty accurate for a chaos lord
Here's a great site I use for roleplaying games.. It works for 40k too, though for chaos you might want to try something a bit more extreme sounding than the obvious german or russian you might use for the Imperials. Look up Latin, Persian, Classical Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic or any other language which sounds wierd to modern western speakers, a lot of them are very nice. Chaos uses a lot of these kinds of names:
Abaddon means 'destruction' in Hebrew.
Ahriman is one of the names of the Persian/Zoroastrian angel of evil.
Alternatively, take the names of movie or book characters and rearrange or tweak them. I have an inqusitor I use in stories named 'Ivan Reznik', a combination of the names of two characters from the film 'The Machinist.' GW does this kind of thing a lot, especially to add twist to a character.. Grand Inquisitor Fyodor Karamazov, for example, is a combination of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a russian author, and the title of his most famous book 'The Brothers Karamazov', a chapter of which is called 'The Grand Inquisitor.'
