Hey guys, I decided to play Emperor's Children, but I was thinking the favoured number is too low. For shooting, I was thinking about having 12 marines instead of 6 (its still favoured right?). Wouldn't this make the squad stronger and able to pull off a lot more shots especially with sonic blasters. Wouldn't it be good to use perhaps one 12 man shooting squad and a couple 6 man CC squads?
Of all the army lists I've seen, there are no 12-man squads. Is this necessarily a bad thing to do? Is it maybe too unwieldy?
If anyone could tell me reasons why it would be bad or good that would be cool

The larger a squad dedicated to mid-range firepower gets, the less point efficient it becomes because as its size increases so does its level as a threat to your opponent.

12 is still a favoured unit (multiples of 6)so units of 6,12,18.
i think the reason people dont have squads of 12 is that they can be expensive at 19 pts per model.
I say if you can take advantage of having big squads do it.I wouldnt take 6 man cc squads though as you need to get accross the board and 6 will be shot to bits (unless you infiltrate)but they still wont last long
hope this helps
I personally favour the 6 man squads, generally in rhinos..
There are very few real disadvantages to them. A 12 man squad only gives off as much firepower as 2 6 man squads, after all, and the 6 man squads are less points intensive targets to your enemy.
You will chew through your troops choices very quickly by using 6 man squads.. but there's very little disadvantage to doing so.
Personally, I wouldn't use shooting squads at all, apart from havocs. I just don't think sonic blasters are worth it. But if you want to try a 12 man sonic blaster squad, do so (perhaps through proxy) and report back your findings. I warn you though, any opponent with a basic grasp of maths will target it, knowing he can reap a lot of easy, fragile points from it.
i also prefer 2x6 man squads, it gives you more flexibility, big unit sise will, ocasionally, make you leave some gaps beetwin your units, with 2x6 man squads you may target 2 different things and your enemy must deal with 2 different targets instead of one, you also may get 2 blastmasters and 2 free aspiring champs! !

plus a six man unit is easier to hide behind something say a rhino than a 12 man squad
