Yeah, so this weekend I did a lil' 2v2 at my local shop with my Eldar buddy against Steel Legion and, get this, a Kroot Army. Yeah... needless to say, we slaughtered them, because thankfully we got first turn and all those infliltrating Kroot got owned.
Now, the Kroot guy wasn't happy, says he never does good in 2v2 with the army but rarely loses in 1v1. I believe him too, because I've seen it in action and with 140+ models they are just to many of them. He said he hates Chaos and he could defeat me, I said I could own him. So next time we meet, we will play.
Sadly he doesn't know the Chaos codex and how we can tailor our army for any foe. And vice versa, but his army is fairly simple so I know what he has.
Problem is that his army get +d6 inches when inflitrating which is a load who-ha if you ask me so and he gets to re-roll his turn dice. So it is likely he will be up in all my face first turn. Thankfully for Chaos, we have this little trick called Counter-attack.
Now does anyone have any insights on this, army set up or tactics wise? Thanks
What legion do you play?
What I remember of kroot is that they have fairly poor leadership, and less than fantastic initiative, so a force with some slaanesh in wcould work quite well. Taking a few autocannons to insta-kill the krootox probably wouldn't go amiss, it would be a real bugger to have to chew through them with bolters.
This is going purely on the old tau codex, so correct me if i'm wrong, but they don't seem to have a huge amount to take down tanks. It may be worth taking an LR if it's going to be invincible, and maybe even splash out on a few termies, although they wouldn't be best for taking out large numbers.
The other way to go is 'zerkers, i would have thought: on the charge you could easily wipe most of a unit, and once you've got rid of their quantity, they don't have all that much quality. Also, this would be using their close-in infiltrating and their delayed arrivals against them, it allows you to get over to their side without being shot.

(><)This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world Domination!
Does he use a Shaper Council? What kind of one?
Winged meltas or hounds+eviscerators?
SC is an amazingly efficient tank hunter, and with Eviscerators and Hounds he can own CSM squads easily. Beware.
Do not allow him to use any of IA stuff like Greater Knarlocs.
Berserkers is a good idea, but don't bother with chainaxes.
Tankshocking Rhinos with Runes would help.
Dreadnaughts may be fun
Lots of guys with low armor saves, a few khornate squads with an AC with axe of khorne + as many attack bonuses goes a long way. sustained attack can REALLY give that army a headache.
Squad with furious charge, MoK, frags, AC with MoK, Tobb, Axe of khorne, Mutation, spikey bits, furious charge. Save a few points on the chainaxes since their saves already suck.
A lord with 'zerker glaive, mutation, spikey bits, and you will BUZZ through numbers like there's no tomorrow.
Khornate armies LIVE for chances like that, sooo many skulls for the skull throne.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
The dude takes bunch of regular squads with a the eviscator (like 5 squads of 20-25), two squads of flyers modified kroot with shapers and eviscators (20-25), and a squad of snipers (about 20).
UNless I'm mistaken, you can only have up to 10 Hunter Kindred (kroot Snipers) per squad. And yes, Kroot actually do have a quiite a bit to take down tanks in the forms of Melta Guns, BOmbs, and Eviscerators. I would go with Bersereker s backed up by Autocannons or Heavy BOlters.

If you don't like the idea of tairloring your list you could try counter infiltrating. Just watch the fun as he has to split his army across the whole board as you fight for infiltrating rights. Not a guaranteed win true but should make for a great game. If you ring the board with slaaneshi guys and a few chaos marines in rhino's you could have a lot fun.
Also Caluin made a votewar list that slaughtered kroot. PM asking for it if you want.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Butcher him with autocannon havocs!
Also, please let us know how you get on.

Well, no one seem to have read what I wrote, he has Chapter approved rules and his special rule is he gets to infiltrate closer that any other army, +d6 inches. I am using counter attack to deal with that because most likely I'll never get to shoot.
