Hey everybody, finally read through enough of this place to balls up and make a post.
My question is, what experiences has anyone had having both daemonic aura and feel no pain on a lord/statured lord? is the safety of both worth it or could I get away with one?
thanks for any advice
First question.. what do you want the lord to do?
I'm not a lord fan, and I never field one myself. But I think a lot of players get the wrong mentality about the lord, and try and tool him to take on an entire army on his own without dying. This is just my feeling, but I think if you're going to include a unit, it needs to be expendable, and it needs to have a purpose. This extends to a lord.
So think long and hard.. do you need aura, feel no pain, or both? What is it you're protecting? What is your lord going to be doing in game and, ideally, who is he going to be fighting. Do your enemies make widespread use of power weapons, rending attacks and such. Does your lord often end up getting stuck in the open and prone to fire.. if so, what kind of fire, small arms or lascannons?
Well, I'm planning on running a WE army, and either way giving him D.Speed. I'm planning on using him as a control, to take on units that a) try and pull my bezerkers away or b) try and get around behind, such as bikes etc.
Don't know how well this would work, but its what I though I'd try
Listen to the Mantis, he's like some frog shaped Buddha of 40K.
Your lord is expendible. Your Lord shouldn't make it to the end of the battle ever. Make him work for his points. Give him what he needs to be where he has to be, and then make sure he gets there.
My experiences are, no matter what I put on the lord, he always gets the poo blown out of him when he minces around the back playing cards with the havocs. He can't be shot when he's in CC. And there, I reckon feel no pain is better.

feel no pain is definately more value for points, aura can be useful, but if you are just in cc most of the time, might be a little bit useless.
because i have limited chaos models, i do make my lord as big as i can, also i try to keep him away from the sight of that wraithlord or lascannon, i find my lord can usually survive through most of the game and then get taken down by a whole lot of banshees.
i'm not going against karmoon or mantis or anything but i'm just telling my experience with lords, they have the potential to last most of the game.
"Follow me Sons of Russ, this night the enemies shall feel the fangs of the Wolf!"
Both are worthwile on a lord, Feel no pain is better for keeping the lord protected from shooting attacks and the average troop in CC, it does nothing against powerweapons and weapons that would insta-kill the lord. On the other hand Aura is usefull against all attacks but those that are too weak to get through the Lords armor.
The great thing about them however, is that they can stack very easily, and neither of them are overly expensive.
Taking the excelent advice above, if the purpose of the lord you are building would benifit from added protection taking both, they are definitly a good investment for your points.
Votewar MKV 2nd place. . .
Back from internet limbo, and glad to be here.
I say give him flight, aura, and put him in a unit of harpies.
Not sure how effective that would be, but it sounds good.(to me)
Feel no pain and Aura on a statured prince is the #1 way to make your prince survivable against shooting. Say 9 las cannons are shot at the prince in one turn from space marines. On average 6 will hit, 5 will wound, 3.3 will make it past the aura, but feel no pain will take that down to 1.6. So on an average roll feel no pain litraly doubles your survival against any shooting attack that isn't str 10. Nothing frustrates an opponent more then bouncing his most powerful weapons.
If you spend 160 on a prince, those few points for feel no pain to double it's suravability against almost all shooting attacks is well worth it.
As far as CC goes feel no pain isn't worth much as it is mainly fists or other powerful CC characters who ignore armour saves you have to worry about, and that is where Aura really shines.
Against things like rail guns, just try and limit LOS, and really just don't take a statured prince if you can help it.
