Give us more info... what force you play would be a good start, then we know where to start!
''It begs the question; why would the emperor permit something quite so dangerous and untamed to exist? And that would be to take down another Space Marine Legion."
I dont have may codex right now but maybe a kai gun for marine killing?,i post something better when i get back unless soneone beats me too it
Check the stickies. They're chock full of useful information, like this thread here!
Without knowing the following things -
A) What legion you play (got this covered already, good start)
What you want in a HQ
C) Your points limitations
D) The rest of your army (general terms is fine, no need for an entire list)
E) The typical opponents that you face
... we really can't begin to help you.
Looks like no one beat me to it even if Caluin linked his super guide
LT with Daemonic Strength,Daemonic Speed,Manreaper and Daemonic Resilience
LT with Daemonic Strength,Daemonic Stature and a Dread Axe
LT with a kai gun,Chaos Spawn and Daemonic Resilience
You could do better but i dont like pay over 120+ FOR MY HQ, just some ideas
An overpriced HQ is probably the easiest way to loose. Generally, the concencus is not to spend over 10% of the total points on your HQs combined. Obviously if you absolutely have to use a greater daemon in 1000 points then maybe you could get away with it. I can't see why you wouldn't have the choice though.
The best way to go is to decide what he'll be doing. In an Iron Warroirs army it's easy to overload on shooting and not prepare for when you get assaulted. An ideal setup would be almost as KOS-MOS suggested- keep the kai gun, but give him a power weapon and d.strength. Best kept to a lieutenant, this guy will fit in with the IW theme and give you some hard-ish hitting combat power to counter-attack with once the enemy gets near.
For combat armies, you should concentrate on increasing the number of attacks- power weapon/daemon weapon+some sort of pistol, mutation, spiky bits, master crafted etc. without spending too many points on unnecessary upgrades. Just don't get carried away, aim to achieve a combination that will fit what you intend him to do, and you won't go wrong.
