Ive heard so many people talking about this and i have no idea wat it is. I have the third printing of the chaos codex but I cant find it in there. Ive heard it has a blast template and good ap so this is something i could really use against my friends Tau commanders because he packs them all so close along with his heavy battle suit. Wat are its stats and what does it look like?
oh and wat size blast template does it use the ordanance or the smaller one
its in the space marine codex. it like most other cannons has a 36" range. uses small template.
ill let you look in the codex for stats, dont wanna get to specific

if pro is the opposite of con, does that mean progress is the opposite of congress?
Since it's not in the chaos codex..
In my opinion, it's not really worth it, since it's rare for units like battlesuits to bunch up that much. Might be fun against deep striking terminators though.. But still, it's not exactly cheap.
As for how it looks, it's like a giant version of the plasma gun, so it has the cooling fins on the side and a big, rounded off barrel.
The space marine on the far right is holding one.
And here's one on a chaos dreadnought (man I hate that model though.. forge world 4tW)

Keep in mind, only the dreadnaught for chaos can use the plasma cannon. Nothing else in chaos lists it as an option. It is good for taking out troops though, with the blast and denying the 3+ save.
My FW super heavy has a doube one but it came with no templates
No vehicle comes with templates. You have to buy them. Just like the flamer and ordinance templates.Originally Posted by Thumper
Used correctly they're really quite dangerous vs any given meq unit. I have yet to use one in a 'real' setting, but I've had them used on me a few times by doing the following:
Speedbump unit. In this case, a unit of 5 scouts. They assaulted my marines (10 of them) and tied me up for a round...and which point the plasma cannon came out of hiding and just waited for the combat to be over. Since my forces were bunched together, the combat ended and let him shoot at me, an I didnt even see it coming : I lost about 5 marines in one shot.
Since the dread can move and shoot, you could do much the same with a small unit of troops vs anything of his that is particularly assaulty. Chaplain + assault squad? Charge them, pray, move your dread close enough to fire it, lose the combat (understatement) and proceed to fire on their tightly grouped marine cluster.
I personally like plasma cannons on dreads, but more for style than really any sense of practicality. They are most useful on densly packed marine units, since the small bases allow for optimal casualties. The problem with stuff like crisis suits and terminators are that the bases are big enough that unless they just deep struck in you'll never get more than one, maybe two under the blast. And then you're better off unting them with plasmaguns than anything.
I used to use dark angels with a plasma cannon in each tac squad, and it scared the enemy but once they are wise to the template you'll never get more than one casualty a turn with them. The point being, they're more useful as a psychological factor than a real threat.
hope this helps
