This is a thread to discuss any ideas we would have for the next Chaos Codex.
Let's keep the conversations and suggestions constructive and helpfull. No doubt Caluin will be watching this thread, and to be honest, if it does get silly then i'd have no hesitations reporting it myself.
I'll kick off with a couple of ideas:
1. Strategy ratings - Alpha Legion, Thousand Sons, Iron Warriors increased to 3
Word Bearers, World Eater reduced to 1
2. FALLEN MARINES - CSMs should have access to 2 squads either fast attack, troop or heavy support from the space marines codex. This is to represent the loyalist marines who have seen the light. Naturally they would cost more points than the Space marine codex to compensate for the flexibility they would bring with them.
Theses two units do not count to minimum FOC if they are troops.
Vehicles may only be taken if there is a squad of marines.
3. DROP PODS - CSMS with their FLEET support would blatantly have access to drop pods and planetary assaults. Arguably, only available to Alpha Legion, Black Legion and a few others, they would be fairly expensive
What does my Chaos brethren think?
There is a chaos drop pod call the Dread Claw, not worth it i dont think. Anyway, i have a few ideas lol:-
-Defiler stats changed to something like an Eldar Wraithlords so it has wounds instead of Armour Values to represent the Daemonic Nature
-Make Berserkers on Juggernaughts an actual unit choice, say 0-1, Fast Attack with rules they already have but with cavalry movement and about 50 points each...minimum and max number unit 1 to 5
-Khorne Raptors, 0-1, Fast Attack...pretty much the way they already are but fleet of wing, however, lose hit and run - same price as it is with the mark of khorne added ontop
-Khorne Terminators, think space marine assault terminators but alot more mean...about 10 more points each compared to SM assault terminators
-Initiative increase on Bloodthirster
-Kharn, i'll be back, similar to Necron special rule with Phylactery, however, he can come back from CC power weapon and double strength death. Have Gorechild wound on 2+ at all times rather than always hit on 2+. About 30 point increase.
I'll come up with some more later lol.
I like the defiler idea. It would be cool to have another daemon engine in.
I like the juggernaught idea too. It should have +2 strength on charge or something, as it's basically a solid wall of metal crushing pretty much anything.
I think it's a great great shame that all the mounts and beasts of chaos dissolved into faceless nothingess.
I think the palanquin of nurgle is a great idea, and should be brought back.
I thought Khorne terminators were pretty much better and cheaper than loyalist counterparts anyway.
And I do think doing that to Kharne will make him seriuosly over powered.

Up to now, I disagree with all you ideas but one.
It has already been said, but I'll say it again : If you want to play marines, play marines. If you want them fallen, just use the Space Marine Codex and find traits that are more likely to be chaotic and use chaos space marines as units. Freshly fallen marines are less likely to be able to use chaos equipment such as defilers or obliterators as those are product of long time passed in the warp. And so, it is less likely that recently fallen marines would be able to summon daemons. Finaly, space marine troop that turned away from the emperror are the same thing as standard CSM, with less leadership.
The defiler is perfect as it is now.
Palanquin of nurgle: I don't know what it is, so I cannot say.
The bloodthirster is fine the way it is. You already have an armour save.
The only idea to which I agree is the Jugernaut Squad as it would make sens. But without the cavalery part. They already are subject to blood frenzie, that's enough.
In counterpart, i would like to have acces to more daemon engine. We already have one, the defiler. Why not some kind of sentinels demonicaly possessed. Ok, you can add daemonic possession to any vehicles and claim them as Daemon Engine, but it's not exactly the same...
I would also lower the cost of the God Dedicated Standards, except fo the Banner of Rage which cost is already ok.
Finaly, I would provide some more advantage for playing a pure Death Guard, World Eater, Thousand Sons or Emperor Childrens. Free AC and +1 Sumonning is great, But I would add a little something, maybe to add some fluff. I don't know.

I don't think you understood the ex loyalist idea...
Upon thinking about it, they should probably be elite choices rather than fill their original space on the FOC. They shouldn't have any marks apart from undivided. They couldn't have any icons either.
The idea was based on them filling a few posts rather than being the 'core'.
Of course normal space marines couldn't use/contact obliterators.
But at the same time, Alpha legion and Night lords would blatantly make use of stolen land speeders and the like should they salvage them. see the bigger picture man!!
I totally agree with you about bonuses for cult armies though. There should be some major improvement above and beyond the AC and +1 summon. I think, weapons like Bezerker Glaive and Manreaper should only be available in cult armies.
I highly doubt that NL or AL would make use of them, I don't want to see us getting more marine stuff, I prefer more weapons that were built in the EoT, not stolen from the imperials.
The cult armies need some reworking.
Akso we can safely expect multiple chaos codices this time as GW has mentioned they will never ever again make such a huge codex.
Like mindraked i dont like alot of the ideas mentioned so far. But here is what i think.
- - - If (which i dont think we need) we were to gain access to drop pods they should be 0-1 and be an elites choice.
- - - Defiler is good
- - - I Like Jugernauts of khone, I think they would convey fleet, +1 Wound, Furious charge and be a (3-8 man ground)
- - - I would also like to see more benifits conveyed to the traitor legions Free ACs and better summoning just doesnt cut it with alot of people.
- - - Overall im very pleased with our codex though.
- - - I would like for chaos to have access to troops from the LaTD list (lets not get into the fact that that list is banned from alot of tournys). But with witchhunters you have these options

i would like to see something similar to that for chaos
Pure chaos space marines (Codex CSM)
Chaos marine with traitor guard allies
Chaos marine with mutant allies
Mutants with space marine allies (Eye of Terror)
Traitor Guard with space marine allies (Eye of Terror)
The first is what we got now, the last 2 is coverd in the eye of terror codex. The Other 2 is really what i would like to play. However like dreadcon said this would only increase the size of the codex.

totally agree with you about traitors and the like.
I was very dissapointed that cultists weren't a part of the list apart from Alpha legion.
Blood pact allies maybe?
As soon as I saw this thread I immediately thought make a cultists a "vanilla" troop choice. However I like the idea about allied LatD much more.
I would personally like to see a new fast attack option. I dislike bikes and despise raptors and in some armies daemons don't just fit. It might be a little greedy considering chaos already has so much versatility but a fast attack vehicle would be ideal.
The big daddy of all the ideas though is a "craftworld eldar" equivalent. Note I'm talking about the codex not the models (although chaos eldar would be cool). I know the marines have entire codicies for their more precious chapters and its a little greedy to ask for chaos to get one for each god. However something like the eldar have got, mash all the abilities and new units of each god into one codex.
It means chaos would become less complicated and more along the lines of collecting a specific legion.

Some assassins used by the imperial forces worship Khorne and WE cant use them. It's the principle of the whole thing that bugs me--If they worship Khorne, we should be able to use them.
