Greetings, i am new to this game and i am designing a 2000 pt EC army. I have a question about Doom Sirens:
Is the following troop configuration possible in an EC army?
6 Noise Marines
Mark of slaanesh
aspiring champ w/ power weapon
2 DOOM SIRENS
Q: do i just pay the cost specified in the codex for each Doom Siren I get?
Q: theoretically, could i pay for doom sirens for all of the above noise marines so that I have a total of 6 in the unit?
On page 55, the codex basically says that (if Marked of Slaanesh) Chosen, CSMs, Havocs and Bikers can (among other upgrades) replace meltagun w/ doom siren, b. pistol/cc weapon for free.
Q: if a CSM (in MOS unit) retans bolt gun, i can still upgrade any models in unit by paying the cost for doom siren specified in codex? (in other words, i dont have to upgrade to meltagun then switch it out for doomsiren/bolt pistol/cc weap? (i realize that generally you would want to put doom siren with cc and not ranged troops)
Q: i want to use doom sirens but how can i avoid making/being accused of having a siren bomb army? What is a siren bomb army exactly? (i thought it had to do with taking minor psych power Siren 8 times to be unassaultable - not with using doom siren)
In Niterabbit's EC tactica it mentions (paraphrased) re Havocs that squads serve 2 purposes 1) to field blastmasters and 2) to field autocannons, and "The other use of these is in a Siren Bomb army for the specific purpose of fielding more Doom Sirens. Giving these guys Infiltrate and 4 Meltaguns gives you an extra Close Combat unit that can have, not three, but five Doom Sirens" He also says this is really cheesy.
Is the above saying that you could have a unit that looks like this?
6 Noise Marine Havocs
x5 doom siren (pay pts specified in codex BUT DO NOT UPGRADE MELTAGUNS)
Asp champ (bolter, personal icon)
Sorry if these Q's seem noobish - but after all, i AM a Noob!
I appreciate your expertise in helping me figure out what i am doing
Yes, it is.Originally Posted by Sybaris SlaayNo. You buy them as instructed on page 55 of the Chaos Codex. Normal models may not purchase items from the Armoury, but there are ways to upgrade existing weaponry. The Gifts of the Gods found in the Books of Chaos are considered part of the armoury.Originally Posted by Sybaris SlaayNo. See above. The most you could have is three Doom Sirens in a Noise Marines squad, and up to five in a Havoc Squad.Originally Posted by Sybaris SlaayOnly the Champion would have this option. Any regular model upgrading to a Doom Siren is automatically equipped with a Bolt Pistol, and has no option for a Bolter. The Champion however can buy the Doom Siren from the armoury, bypassing the restrictions on models upgrading Meltaguns.Originally Posted by Sybaris SlaayYou are correct - Siren Bomb armies make use of the Minor Psyker Power "Siren." The don't need to use Doom Sirens at all. Names are similar, but two completely different items. Read up on the Siren Minor Power and it should all become clear how you daemon bomb with it.Originally Posted by Sybaris SlaayNo. I think you're reading NiteRabbits tactica wrong. He's just saying that having Doom Sirens in a Daemon Bomb army is helpful, but not vital to the purpose of the army.Originally Posted by Sybaris Slaay
Okay, I read the tactica, and I get what Niterabbit is trying to get across.
In a Siren Bomb army, all of your Troops slots should be taken up by Daemonettes, leaving you no room to field standard Noise Marines. By taking Havocs and giving them Doom Sirens, you're essentially creating a hybrid close combat unit that doesn't eat up a Troops slot.
Thanks for the clarification. I completed and posted the list i'm working on as "1500 EMPEROR'S CHILDREN needs help" in the 40k chaos army list section.
