Hi Was wondering if some one could help me with a basic army like what to get for a decent 1000 point army i am in australia melbourne if any players out there willing to actrully show me in real life but yea thanks in advance im willing to take any advice
Well first off don't buy the Chaos battleforce, it's mildly horrible. First step, buy your Codex and Rulebook. Read both of those until your eyes bleed and than find somewhere you can watch a few games, I'd recommend at least 3. This will give you an idea of what you like, a rough idea but you can run with it. I'd recommend not listening to any one player to much because everyone has their own biasis and you've gotta make up your own mind. After that, buy tyhe basics of your army ie. Khorne Bezerkers, some basic Chaos Marine squads, Thousand Sons etc. Than settle on an HQ, a Chaos Lord is best for a beginner he's a good fighter and one mean motha. Knit him out with a few items to make him cool and than look at your options. Maybe you like Termies for guns or Demons for suprise, or some Tanks for big gun support. I recommend playing a few games with like 250-500 pts to get an idea of what you like, start slow or you'll dump cash into unneeded stuff.

Like to talk Warhammer or want some advice on Armies or Tactics? Drop me a PM!
Well Artic, it's kinda hard to tell you wich way to go till we have a better idea of what you want.
Unfortunently the hardest decision you make with warhammer is what army to collect. . . I know I wasted some money on tau before I found my true calling of Chaos. (There is nothing wrong with Tau, just didn't fit my playstyle.)
I agree with the Prince of Excess's advice. As painfull as it is to read till your eyes bleed, it's better to do that than make a purchace that you regret. I would also flip through the other army books too, you might find a better fit. The worst thing that can happen is you have a better understanding of a common enemy if you decide against playing Chaos. (Heck I have almost all of the books, and have no desire to play most of them. . .) It's handy knowing your enemy.
Anyway once you've done the reading, and seen a few games, it's time for you to decide wich legion to start. Once you decide that, and have a few ideas of what you want to do, then we'll be a lot more usefull to you.
A few things to point out.
Check out the army list subforum to this to see other people's chaos lists for ideas on how to build a good chaos army.
Read the Building a chaos army, and the frequently asked questions about 40K Chaos
