If you opt to give your lost and the damned mutants 'firearms' will they actually lose an attack or something, or is leaving them with the close combat weapons totally pointless???
Gamesworkshop loves your money!
Orks: SPACE CHAVS!!!!
Nope, they won't lose an attack..
The reason firearms are optional is mainly because they have to be modelled and they're stupendously useless.
Your standard Mutants will only get better. Having the option to fire the Firearms will always be better than having the single Close Combat weapon.
The issue comes up with the Boss Mutant. Since Firearms are two handed weapons, if you elect to purchase a Powerfist for him (which everyone does) then he can't claim a +1 attack bonus for two one handed weapons. That one attack alone is usually worth forgoing the Firearms and sticking with just the one CCW on the rest of the mutants. (And of course the obligitory 2x Flamers.)
Giving your mutants firearms is pretty much a waste of time. They're terrible shooters and as someone who has experimented with firearms on his mutants, they will 99% of the time hurt themselves more than they hurt the enemy.
Open up in the name of the Lawl!
But the point is that they now have the option of shooting, where as before they did not. That's always better, with the exception of the scenario I pointed out. You don't need to fire a weapon just because you have one.Originally Posted by kingcomrade
I can think of a few times I would wish that my Mutants would be armed with Firearms instead of just a regular CCW. There are many times that inflicting even a single kill upon a unit will grant you more Victory Points than what you might've lost through bad Gets Hot! rolls. No, they'll keep the frags even if they have Firearms.Originally Posted by Andusciassus
Once again we have one of these very open, depending on how you read it, writings.Originally Posted by Caluin
I have always read it as ".... counts as one CC-weapon and also as frag-grenades" but I guess one might just as well read it as "yada yada yada counts as one ccw and they also have frag grenades".
Since I actually have mutants carrying firearms I will not complain though.
As has been mentioned before it comes down to the option to shoot vs the extra powerfist attack. Both are valid choices.
I find the get's hot rule to be too harsh for me personally though. My mutants tend to be rushing at the oppenent in an attempt to get into CC. Anything they might do that would help my opponent thin their numbers only damages their close combat ability when they actually arive.
If you value the firearms that is perfectly fine, but I've never missed them, but I can see cases like what Caluin mentioned where it would come in handy. Personnaly those very cases is why I love my Kai Gun Arch Heretic. He's good at picking off those stragglers that gain you more victory points than the stragllers themselves are worth. 1-2 men in an under half strenght squad.. . changes from 1/2 strength to killed.
Caluin, I've heard you express intrest a while back in LatD, but this is the first time I've heard you mention having them that I'm aware of. . .
adding another LatD player to my list of known players. . .
