Welcome to Librarium Online!
Me and my loving of dreadnought had an idea:
A 4 dread Iron Warrior army all with a missile launcher, a plasma cannon and CCW each and what about 9 oblits for elites and 40 marines for troops and thats it... But wait... HQ? I can't leave it empty too bad I can't have another dread for hq like space wolves... or can I?? and thats where it hit me why not convert my deamon prince to look like a dread or even better:
Making my Deamon prince an old chaos lord who was put into a dread then kept on fithing for so long he got so liked by the deamon my army worships that he got posessed by it and now he has grown to the size of a deamon prince and even maybe bigger and in the prosses has grown out off his dreadnought armour... or almost...
If I can get to scan a pic I drew of him (as a plan not the really thing like just to know where everythnig goes)
The way I drew him he's gonna have a dread torso, a furioso hand, a dark blade with deamon prince hand, almost all the dread armour, a defiler head, a dread foot, a tyranidly converted foot and mostly giant body with green stuff over it to make it look like it's been in a bath for 10 000 years and posessed too.
Then now I tought I have a leader for my elite of the elites and now I need a leader for my elites (oblits) and I still can have a lieutenant how about making him my oblits leader.
P.S. If this doesn't make sense or is really wack well I started writing this at 8:30 pm and now I'ts 12:30 am and today I was in a plane for 8 hours but couldn't sleep and i'm 13 so please i'm not retarded nor lazy i,M sorry
I think i get what you mean... basically your going to use the daemon prince rules to make a dreadnought Hq? I like the idea...
It is a shame you cannot take a greater daemon as a Hq in Iron Warriors aswell... you could do the same thing.
Anyway i like the idea. good luck and post up some pictures when you are done.

Its a cool and fun idea although for gaming purposes, i cant see it working. They haven't got the best armour in the world and if your opponants has a couple of lascannons or even rocket launchers, i could honestly see you losing all the dreads in the first turn. Dreads should be like Eldar Wraithlords in the sense that they have strength, toughness and wounds rather than armour. But either way, the idea sounds really fun
Wow now i'ts 1:28 am and not asleep but I found out I didn't ask my questions yet: would it work? would it be cheesey? what should I give my lieutenant? what should I give the dread if I want to have em as survivable as possible? (and I would like to know the way to have em do 4 templates in 1 turn with fire frenzy) and btw at most this army is gonna be 2500 points.
P.S. I think i will use my DP as a cannon fodder cause he's bigger than a dread and more survivable

ok I just found out what I want on my dread:
Mutated Hull (Not many eldars or dark eldars)
Havoc Missile launcher
This is what I would take now can you guys tell me What to keep and what to boot and does some one have any tactics or tacticas about dread.
If you want an HQ dread in a Chaos army you can model that but treat the character like a Deamonic prince rules wise. Give him D Stature and weapons approprite to a Lord/Prince. I.E. you wouldn't be able to use the plasma cannon, havoc missles, or vehicle upgrades. But it would be a cool model (like the one in the back of the Chaos Codex) and it would have to follow all the Lord rules. You can also give him all the Lord gifts. Basically, a Chaos Lord/Prince just modeled differently. He also would no longer have "armor" like a dread but have the saves and wounds of a D Prince.Originally Posted by TheEndIsNear
Alternatively, you could always have a FOC legal list, and have a minimal HQ as the Dreadnought Lord's minder. You could even model the lieutenant with a chain so he can attampt to keep the dread binded at times. Kinda stupid, but it would look very cool.
AAhh.. this opens the road up so much for some interesting custom rules.
I say be creative, make them fair, get consent from your friends and have fun!

Perhaps I didn,t write well what I was about to do: take 4 dread as HS and 1 DP as HQ but convert him to look like the SM in the dread riped out some of his armour and grew bigger but still has dread armour on it but DP rules and as a CCW, a dread powerfist and to show his dread like STR Deamonic Staure, STR and dark blade, his resilience Deamonic Essence Resilience Stature Aura and maybe armour point permiting
Bassicly a Warhammer giant with dread armour, a dark blade on a DP hand, a Dread power fist, a Defiler head, with GS on some off the giant to make him look old, posessed and like he's been in a bath for 10 0000 years.
I like the idea, I look forward to seeing it.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
If you read Dead Sky Black Sun (one of the Ultramarines novels), there is an Iron Warriors warsmith who is encased in a big dreadnaught-like suit of armor. I'd agree that you could use Demon Prince rules (Demonic Stature and a mess of other abilities), and just model him like a dread. It'd look pretty cool...
