I'm an old skool 40K player, who's been out of the loop for nearly 10 years. I have a significant chaos marine army based around the Night Lords Chapter. When I started collecting and playing 'fluff' wasn't a term we used and the history of the 40K universe not that great. A lot has changed. the Night Lords are no longer associated as being a Khornate chapter and the chapter insignia has changed too. Well not for these troops, they're looking to add skulls to the foot of the blood god's throne.
Blood for the blood god, death under the veil of darkness, a wave of fire from the north.
So I am getting back into the game now. I'm in the process of assessing my figures (some of which are extremely early 40k minatures and I guess might be a bit rare these days) and I am repainting and converting them. I'll try and post updates on here as I progress and share with the community. I'm currently in the process of "chaosifying' my terminators a bit and putting together some heavy armour, so I'll probably post pictures of these first.
Here's some of what's currently in the force:
One Big Badass Bloodthirster
About 12 Bloodletters
About 8 Bloodhounds
(not sure on these as some are stillin storage and I can't remember what's in the box...)
2 Juggernauts of Khorne
Converted Daemon Prince
Several Chaos Champions
13 units of Chaos Marines
These are 8 marine units in various tactical, assault and devastator configurations
4 Rhino APCs
2 Land Raiders
All looked after by 4 Chaos Tech Marines
There's probably some other stuff I've forgotten too...

Northwave, welcome back to 40K, welcome back to Chaos and welcome to LO
From the sheer amount of models you have, I'm pretty sure you'll easily be able to make a solid army to play that's also fun to use.
With the amount of Khornate daemons, however, Nightlords isn't an option any more >.<.
What i'd suggest is Black Legion to begin with. That gives you the most flexibility and gives you a chance to see what you like and what suits you best . Especially Alpha Legion
So go for it, post a 1500 list or something in the army list section and we'll be glad to help.
Also.. in the latest Chaos Codex, the Nightlords posing for their legion shot have normal space marine back packs on.. not the cool Chaos ones.. I wonder why.
Perhaps there's no meaning, but i think it's because the models didn't get enough time to change before they finished the photoshoot. Maybe they were doing the Marine Catalogue too that day...

Well it's a bit naughty of GW to have changed the rules in the way they have
I guess to me, my army will always be a Night Lords force, but in practical terms it might be easier to play them as something else!
I must admit my days of epic 24 hour gamings sessions with thousands of figures and big groups of friends on various peoples floors are long behind me and with a full time job and repsonibilities, I don't get much time to game anymore. Maybe I will make it down to my local GW and try and get to grips with the new rules one evening!
I still enjoy crafting and painting. Many of my minatures are converted from their originals so I feel each has a bit of extra character...
I will post photos up in due course...
My next purchase is going to have to be some Raptors. I'm thinking two 8 troop squads... which will then mean I am only one unit of two full companies (assuming there are eight 8 troop units to a company in a khornate force - I guess they would stick to the magic number of the blood god). I am going to make the final squad, which will be another assault unit extra special.
In the end all this makes it quite a big 'splinter'

Right then. I've set up a website for showing off the figures. Only managed to post some WIP pics at the moment, but more to follow.
