Classic battle of a CC Army vs a Shooty Army... Any tips?
Berzerkers, Terminator Lord, Terminators, Defiler, CSM Squads, Havoc Squads and maybe bikes?
Heard some 'good' things about bikes/furies being good against Tau, care to specify on the topic?
And for the 'nids, I'll be using the same things pretty much... Will probably be facing both at the same time, and suggestions on how to stay alive and kill them all?
Also, what kind of mission should I play them in? (Meat Grinder, Take and Hold, etc) I kinda realise that fighting both armies (who are working in colaboration with eachother) upfront won't work... To try and even the odds, I might be working wih a Necron player.
So... Any strategies/advice you people can give me? :ninja:
Hey shinken, welcome to Librarium Online
Here's a recent thread that might have the info you're looking for:

Also, you put bikes in what you can use, but werne't sure (I'm assuming by the '?'). I'd definitly take them. They're fast, and when speed boosting get the invulnerable save. Not only that, but they can get some nasty weapons on them which can do some damage against those weak little tau . The bikes also can get into assault fast.
Against the 'Nids, I'd just shoot them as you move forward, so they're weak, and then finish them off in an assault. Watch out for rending, and in paticular, genestealers. They can be really nasty.

If your Tau opponent doesn't use many tanks then one bike squad alone can take out their army; don't bother with finesse, just run up and kill him. Tau shooting is no more dangerous than an average Tactical squad's and once you get close any suits won't have a place to hide.
The Tyranids will be more the problem, especially if the two are smart and work together. I would focus on the bugs to start; kill the synapse and Genestealers, then start in on the Tau. Save a fast squad or two (Furies and bikes are perfect) for when it's time to kill Firewarriors. Use the Defiler to kill Hammerheads or squads of suits, then bring it out from cover and hunt any TMCs left. A fun game, but not too hard if you focus your firepower well. Tyranids shouldn't have the numbers they need and Tau shouldn't have too much fancy equipment on the board.
Consider deepstriking your Terminators if the Tyranids have enough gaunts to tarpit them.
If you have Necron backup then let him handle the Tau. He knows what to do.
The easiest game for you would probably be either Take & Hold or Secure & Control. There should be few Tyranids left by the end of the game and Tau have trouble holding objectives due to their CC weakness. Conversely, Recon would be a very bad choice as the other armies are much faster than you and can cause unacceptable casualty rates if you try to hurry. Meat Grinder or Table Corners would give a fair fight, I think.

I got my first almost victory against the Tau today. We had a 3-way battle me WE one friend necron one tau. My tau friend figued that he better get rid of me first before i got to him which is correct but i made it in half a piece and that was enough to do some serious damage. It also helped that i got like 5 direct hits with my defiler and blew up and pinned many fire warriors so that when i got to him one of my remaining bezerker units(numbering 3) beat the crap out of and sweeping advanced and killed a full fire warrior unit, twas cool. I thought i was on a roll until the necrons finaly got close enough and that was the end of me. I still finished 2nd in a 3-way battle tho so i didnt feel to bad. It was the first battle i dont really consider a loss because between tau and necron i killed i had more victory points, maybe, but we were playing last man standing wins so i lost.
What point battle are you playing? With Terminators AND Bikes AND armour AND cult elements, that's a lot of points.
If you're fighting both at the same time then you have to be carefull, the Tau will be able to outshoot you, and Nids can out CC a chaos army whilst laying down harrowing firepower of their own.
If you're going black legion with Khorne element, then I strongly recommend taking obliterators who are usefull in any situation.
Also, i'd recommend trying to ask your opponents to let you tweak the force organisation chart.
Regardless of what they say... you could potentially be up againt 6 carnifexes and 3 hammer heads with 4 HQs.
You are at a distinct disadvantage if you only have access to essentially half of what they can. Sure you'll have more and the same in terms of points.. but it isn't the same.
Naturally, this might work to your advantage too. If they plan their armies seperately then there won't be any cohesion between their forces, and you should be able to take them piecmeal.

Tau are a fun squishy army once you get close enough. Use lots of cover on the board and get into cc as fast as possible beware thier high ap weapons and rail guns. Most smart tau will take a fair bit of armor and battle suits against a khorne army while taking full advantage of thier assault moves to run away.
The nids Can be tough because of massive amounts of attacks from cheap troops. shoot the genstealers and try not to frenzy against them your bolt pistol fire could win the day for you . Plus most nids are going to charge you the first chance they get and they have higer initiatives in general.
if you have to take on both armies at the same time you will have a hard time against elite long range fire and assault troops. If you are playing a staight WE's army Go with bikes and beserkers. A Pred kitted out with a ( AC , hvy Bltr, and a havoc launcher ) could earn back a tremendous amount of VPs. take rhinos with either havoc launchers or destroyers to run over those bugs , plus they make great moving cover.
Lastly you may want quantity over quality for beserkers leave the fancy vet skills at home. Tau have low toughness and poor initiative. Nids have either much better Initiative or will deny you the charge. Counter charge is a decent skill to make your infantry a little less vunerable.
Thought for the day: A Burning Heretic , Will brighten the Decor of any room.
This could be either really good for you, or really bad. The problem with khornate madmen are that they have a tendency to run out into the open and get shot up. Tau will love that.
If they are playing the fish of fury tactic, you will have some serious problems without dedicated anti tank(predators, predators predators) The most successful WE armies will field 2 or more predators with all lascannons. This will allow you to pop a few of their vehicles a turn so you can get at the soft and chewy insides.
Bikes. they are generally useful if you use them right(as with anything in the game) but WE are pretty limited for their use, they can't upgrade their guns(unless you pay a LOT of points to do so) so they are relegated to the fast charge(a lot of people tend to charge them up the middle, which is usually a bad idea)
how to stay alive? well, use cover as much as you can. when you set up the board, make sure there are a few terrain pieces blocknig line of sight through the middle, or the tau will simply stay back and blast you. Rhinos are also an excellent way to MAKE cover.
2 to 3 rhinos(with extra armor and smoke launchers) used in a formation to Block LOS to each other and to your 'zerkers coming up the rear is an excellent way to keep your guys alive.
As far as what sort of missions to use? I don't think there are any real "advantages" to getting one mission or another, they all have their points. The only one I might steer clear of would be "cleanse" the tau's ability to swoop in turn 6 and contest board corners, or take board corners could REALLY mess you over.
I guess, my best advice would be to do a little background research to know your enemy(oponent) and see what sorts of tau armies are out there and ask yourself, what, if any strategies can I implement with my army to conter act that?
popular tau strategies:
Fish of fury: Highly mobile, usually have 3 to 4 groups of 12 firewarriors in devilfish,
they unload 12'' from your troops, and shoot through their skimmer. the skimmer blocks assaults and is a hard target to kill. This will be your worst nightmare if you don't have any anti tank. you'd be required to assault the skimmer, hitting on 6's, and IF you have powerfists, you'd need 4's to do anything, and you'd only glance.
Static tau: this is made up of a strong gun-line with a lot of crisis suits and broadsides. This would be better for you because you may be able to hide behind stuff until you are close enough to get them, be aware that this formation usually uses a LOT of fire warriors, kroot to screen you, pathfinders to markerlight you, stealth suits to harry your flanks, and a LOT of heavy firepower to decimate you if you get close, this is where the rhinos would really come in handy to block LOS to areas. A defiler with indirect fire would do well here, hide him behind something and punish them.
Hybrid: a little from column A, a little from column B. now, the only plus side here is that this is trickier for your oponent to play, there isn't all his elements able to do one thing or another and it takes real finesse to get his elements where he needs them. Ususally people who play this are either really good at it, just learning or they suck with it.
Hope this helps.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Be careful of Pathfinder's, with the new markerlight rule's they can become troublesome very quickly. If he take's Hammerhead's you must take them down quickly... With the sub's round potentially hitting and wounding on 2's and the fact that they are notoriously hard to take down (In my experience anyway), they will cause your expensive marine's to take a lot of armour save's (which is never a good thing ).
''It begs the question; why would the emperor permit something quite so dangerous and untamed to exist? And that would be to take down another Space Marine Legion."
Oi Shinken! x3 Picked up some Havoc's for ya today! Also Abadon if you want to use him seeing as how you might be a Black Legion Army for now.
Regarding Shinken's original post, he WILL have armored Necron support by yours truly. Pretty sure some Gauss lovin' will make our little Tau friend a bit jittery. :shifty: However, can't make any promises against the 'Nids... You might have to take care of them, the best I'll be able to do is provide some cover fire and maybe take out the bigger ones.
As a side note: The Tau will have no Devilish transport what so ever... The most we'll have to worry about are two Hammerheads and maybe one full squad of Broadsides. Not to mention a team or two of Crisis as well... Wait no... He has Pathfinders w/ Railrifles and a squad of Sniper Drones too...
The 'Nids won't have too much to worry about either, the worst probably being a Tyrant, maybe a Carnifex, but I'm sure he'll have a squad of Genestealers...
All in all, I think we stand a damn good chance of winning, even if the Tau and 'Nids work together. (Which will probably happen) And, I could care less if I die early, as long as the Tau are off the field I'm a happy camper. Either flayed or butchered, those little blue fools will die.
Hate to post out of topic but its between friends... Choas eh tomo? Well i'll say that you have no tact. Are lazy for not painting your army. And, dont have a chance against budd for garret. Wish you the best as in getting blasted by gauss and railguns... Just cuz i hate chaos
Your Friend, Yah you guessed it that one with the Dark Angels.
