I have been hearing quite a bit about how important the rhino is for the thousad sons marines. Why are they so important? What is a good tactic used by Thousand son players and how many do you have in your army?
You know what they say, if you dont like the weather in houston...go back to where you came from
because thousand sons are slow and purposeful(always must move as if in cover) and the rhino helps them move.

Well, rhinos are quite importent to TS players. I only use 1-2 per game, mostly 1.
They are used by my CC thousand sons squad. Move up, disembark, shoot Wind of chaos twice(thrall) and charge(if anything is left). With my AC sorceror being equipped with power fist, CC, d.mutation and perhaps master crafted weapon(depending how many pts left)...
This CC TS unit is supported by my disc lord of doom....
Initiative 1, no Sweeping Advance, no bonus Attack, cannot take bolt pistol/close combat weapons; why would you ever want to charge with the Thousand Sons?
Well, when you have a lord with a retinue of 4 chosen with doombolt, CCW, and Bolt Pistol there won't be much left to assault!Originally posted by Dawnfire@Jan 29 2004, 08:24

My elvish name is Maeglin Meneldur.
The best use is prolly to race forward, disembark, and start roll 16 dice for the bolter fire... combined with sometihng like Doombolt or Wind of Chaos not much will be left after the shooting phase ^_^ .
Ze titles yez...

Because they can rapid fire before charging, and with the new assault rules they wouldn't get the charge attack anyway. They also have that hard hitting aspiring champion, protected by a 16 meat shield wounds in power armour. With things like wind of chaos such a squad can seriously decimate any enemy unit, and with gift of chaos the AC can pick off enemy power fist characters, while being safe himself.Initiative 1, no Sweeping Advance, no bonus Attack, cannot take bolt pistol/close combat weapons; why would you ever want to charge with the Thousand Sons?
Thousand sons are better in close combat than many people think. In fact a nine man rubric squad can hold its own against a blood angel death company of the same size (or against a ~6 man death company if a chaplain is involved). I wouldn't call such a squad bad in close combat then...
Besides that, their strength in close combat is not being able to deal out much damage (they are rather average concerning this), but their ability to absorb the enemy's blows. In the end, they cause moderate damage, while the enemy simply causes even less than that.
I once saw 3 'sons chosen w/. powerfist chew through 16 guardians, 5 banshees, 5 swooping hawks, 4 dire avengers and a viper in one game, taking only 1 wound in return.
Apathy is the greatest enemy of all.
The Rhino is great for grabbing those key peices of terrain, like a bunch of trees, or a hill. How many Thousand Son players have about killed themselves for NOT taking a rhino or two and end up playing the Rescue mission!
