Are combat drugs really worth their point cost? I mean you can usually get two abilities easily with little chance of wounding yourself... I usually take Str and +1 Attk, but you can get both of those for no risk at all from Daemon Gifts. The re-roll through difficult terrain when assaulting is fairly useless, as is the +WS in most situations. The only other ability I like is ignoring one wound during that round of assault. I always hear that Combat Drugs are a must, but I'm failing to see that their usefulness outweighs their cost. Thoughts?
So, check it out, if 1 str and +1 Attk is really all you use it for, for whatever you equip it on, look to see whether the cost of D.Mutation + D.Strength costs you more, or less points than the combat drugs. If they are equal then I'd go with the drugs, since there's the option of switching it out. The ability to ignore wounds is eff'n huge... it just plain ignores the first wound, man!
I believe, in the case of ICs taking the upgrades, the combat drugs is equal to the upgrades separate. while its cheaper to just get the gifts separately for the champs.
If you think you'll be making extensive use of the ignore wound thing, then by all means go for the drugs.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Well, there are a few things :
1) If you take a lord with Resilience you have little to fear from powerfists, as regular marines aren't likely to damage a t6 in close combat, you can shrug that powerfist wound right off, should it hit
2) Bumps you up to the str8 point when you are attacking MEQ heros with a dread axe
3) The extra WS again goes with res, as it makes the normal marines even more unlikely to damage you.
Personally I like them on the Statured lords, as a lord that autokills, probably strikes first and ignores all saves is pretty nasty. But thats all really a matter of how you use the Lord.
Remember, when calculating instant death, you use the unmodified toughness of the model. So, D. Resilience wouldn't prevent isntant death from a strength 8 powerfist.1) If you take a lord with Resilience you have little to fear from powerfists, as regular marines aren't likely to damage a t6 in close combat, you can shrug that powerfist wound right off, should it hit
Drugs are rubbish. They suck in the game almost as much as they do in real life.
so you can get the extra strength. Woopidoo. S8 with a dreadaxe is indeed a tasty combination.
But there are much better things to equip your lord with.
The ignore wound thing doesn't count against instakill either, so it's a moot point.
If you only want to make use of two upgrades, just take the two upgrades we all know and love.
Strength/resilience and mutation.
Remember, piling on the strength is wasting one of the D.axe's natural abilities - the set wounding role.
Dark Eldar use drugs, and look at the sad losers they are. :shifty:
Your lord is going to get enough lascannon beam shaped hate mail as it is. Don't give your opponents extra chances to wound such an expensive and important model. A plasma gun on a marine is one thing...
So like He-man told me every week during the glorious 1980s:
'Don't do drugs kids'.

Open up in the name of the Lawl!
t6 still negates quite a bit of bolter fire/str4 CC attacks
I mean it as a way to avoid the "swarm" of wounds before the powerfist wound...once the powerfist wounds you can negate that and not have to "waste" your first wound on the other marine attacks.
Lets say marines get lucky, 4 marines +pfisted sarge attack. You cut down one first, 3 normal attacks, 2 hit (again, lucky), maybe one wounds and that's saved against.
It's not a game breaking thing, but anything that lets me negate random marine attacks and minimalize powerfists seems nice to me.
I was thinkin about this little bit of wargear lately. I'm not so sure about it myself. That preventing wounds ability is nice but its replaces by a 1/6 chance from the drugs itself. I dunno not worth it in my book. I'd rather buy the regular demonic gifts first and stop there.
