So, is defeating a Ravenwing army pretty much just about having an incredible amount of fire power to blow all of those skimmers out of the sky? They seem like they would be an army that could shred any other to pieces with an Assault cannon and being only able to glance them. My friend is building a Ravenwing DA army now and his single landspeeder that he fields (rest are in the mail) already gives me nightmares. I have yet to kill the stupid thing! I do play EC with sonic blasters and the like... i love my assault guns. Some of my units had plasmas and meltas, but wow I can't even take down a skimmer...
It's becomming synonymous with the Chaos Forum at LO, but it's with good reason.
Autocannons, autocannons, autocannons.
dakka dakka dakka.
Seriously, the 8 man squad with 4 autocannons and tank hunters is really the golden standard. They're never wasted. Even shooting into MEQs, at a marine's balistic skill with S7 shots, you're still forcing them to make loads of saves.
Just my opinion but, the 3+ needed with heavy bolters really doesn't cut it for me. Time and time again, I've unloaded obliterators with h.bolters into stealers and rolled 1s and 2s for wounding.
Autocannons are great because they wound pretty much all foot troops on 2+.
Some people may recommend rocket launchers due to AP3. However, I'd still say to go against a vast amount of skimmer - take autocannons. If you're only glancing (which you will be) then you need to roll on that glancing chart as much as you can.
did I mention how much i like autocannons?
Like Karmoon already said, in this caese AC are your best friends.
They will take down the landspeeders with ease and should provide more than enough wounds on the bikers.
I play with Ravenwing models, and my brother plays Chaos.
The simplest way to down those speeders are to pour shots onto it. But keep in mind to not waste alot of shots on them.
One shot weapons are not likely to take care of the job, because of the skimmer rule and Ravenwing jink. (My current jink save record against lascannons, 6 out of 10!)
Bolters are good, not likely to glance but they have a chance, even more so in volumes (my speeder was brought down by a sole bolt pistol shot. )
Autocannons, as every one said, are great, easy to glance with and have volumes of shots, your best bet.
Just my two cents.
Well, to beat Ravenwing, you need to play to the objective, first and foremost.
Take care to lock down his Bikers with your own fast-moving units (Furies, Daemonettes, Bikers or Raptors, to name a few), and blow those Ravenwing Speeders sky-high with Autocannons and Heavy bolters.
Just thought of another thing,
why are autocannons great?
Answer, S7 with 2 shots.
What also has S7 with 2 shots?
Plasma! you can also move with them to shoot them, and you get the comedy situation of melting your own men - isn't that great?
Everyone knows how terminators and marines dislike plasma equally, so with plasma havocs, they are a threat to pretty much anything on the table. Marines, speeders, bikers, terminators - if you get the chance to field them with tank hunters then even landraiders are potential quarry.
Just bear in mind.. they aren't likely to survive the match.
i know you're an EC player Ecchu, but the basics for Chaos still apply and should be abused whenever possible. Slaanesh is fantastic in that you can field autocannons, assault weaponry and it's all fair game.
Against ravenwing, two squads of havocs(as shown above) with ACs, and one squad of ML's
He's bound to have some bikes zipping around, and what's better than denying a 30+ point model its armor save? Many squads with 2x plasma, and/or 2x meltaguns are a big plus too.
ACs against the speeders/master, ML's, plasma and meltas against the bikers. Hidden fists is also an even better way to go, when they assault you(if they assault you) you should have the advantage for the attrition game, even if he has 10 strong, you should have a reasonable size squad and hit back with extreme prejudice.
Ravenwing is a very zippy and fast army, but with a banefully low model count, the turn he forgets or doesn't turbo boost his bikes, if he doesn't get them into assault you should make them PAY!
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
