I have a question about this particular piece of fabius bile's wargear.
Maybe it was cleared up in a more recent copy of the codex.
My codex states that any opponent suffering one or more wounds from the rod is immediatley removed as a casulaty.
Immediatley removed after suffering a wound. Which implies that you don't get a save of any kind since the model is removed before you do so.
Anyone have a newer copy of the codex? Is it changed?
I know what you mean, and I can see where you came from, and I'm sorry that the only way I can argue against that is with semantics but...
There's a difference between taking a wound and suffering it.
it's not clear at all, but i'd say that the model has to fail an armour save or invulnerable save to remove them from play. Once they fail the saving throw do they 'suffer' the wound.
Like i said.. not much of an argument. My other one's even worse:
If it did ignore armour and invulnerable saves then it's not very fair really is it?
I mean c'mon.. for the same points as a cheap dread/pred...
Sequence of events
Roll to hit --> roll to wound(more like force armor checks if any apply) --> wounds applied to models. You didn't actually wound a model if their armor saves them. In this case, only when the rod actually makes contact and hurts by failed armor check does the special effect go into place.
Even though you've "rolled to wound", its really roll to force an armor check.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Gaah.. that's what i wanted to say! The Yak's just clevererer than me and i don't speak english none too good.
Yeah the semantics are in "game-based effects". The sequence is as TheYak stated, so there's no argument. But they REALLY should have made that more clear. Still though, a pretty damn fine weapon against ICs or Nids. The only problem is that the Rod is not even a power weapon...even the lowliest gaunt gets his save.
Fabius Bile has got some cool advantages...and isn't all that costly, but still - I don't think I would ever take him.
I think that he might actually be an acceptible HQ choice. He isn't expensive and he gives the option of having an improved furious charge on your marines.
I know there's a risk and stuff, but, i think for friendlies it might be quite fun.
i agree have used him a feqw times just for a bit of a giggle and he is fun to use as its nice sometimes just to play a nice relaxed simle game just for fun
The first time I use him, I just know what would happen...I would roll a 1 for every squad, hahaha, then I would fail half the saves, and my opponents would hand me a kleenex.
He could be very fun to use, but here's the thing -
If I'm playing just for fun, I want it to be fluffy. I don't like Bile's fluff :x and I don't like the look of his model. Only time I would take him would be in a small army - 500pts maybe, with him and two sqauds of enhanced marines. But leading an entire army? Nah. not my style.
I would like to see someone base an army around him though, that would be pretty cool to see. (a 1500 pt army - 6 squads of 15 marines with BP/CCW with infiltrate, Fabius enhancements and regular furious charge + Fabius himself = 1494...that could be FUN)
