[Warning, this rambles a little since it involves a lot of conflicting thoughts]
Ok, I have a neat army concept I've been working on for months (and started collecting) and I've been playing around with my dremel and bits to see if I'll be able to do it reasonably.
This army goes with the decade-old fluff for my, space marine chapter. This chapter has been guarding the space around a shrine world for a few centuries now. The shrine world itself is guarded on the ground by Sisters of Battle (The ecclesiastarchal branch, not the Ordo Hereticus branch). I was originally going to do a SoB army, but then my mind turned to Chaos...
Now I just have to make it work.
The army will be demon heavy, bomblike even. Units I plan to include:
- LOTS of Deamonettes (I own 40, but know that that is too many to reasonably use)
- Bloodletters (I'm using Sisters Repentia for this, probably changing their blades)
- CSM squads
- Probably Bikes
- For the 2000 point army, a Bloodthirster.
I've got a few options for the fluff/modeling side:
1) Make them saintly, angelic even.
- Paint Deamonettes to look angelic (for 40k anyways)
- Paint sisters repentia to look like returned martyrs
- Use a penitent engine (ghostly) or angelic scratchbuild for the thirster.
Meh, the more I think about it, who wants saints and angels anyways...
2) Make them Fallen sisters (harder to model since it is damned hard to dremel off all the fluer-de-lis but easier to accept, fluffwise)
- Deamonettes are what they are
- Sisters repentia with different blades would make fine 'letters
- Real bloodthrister
- Statured Lord or Obliterator modeled from a penitent engine (I'm not a fan of chaos dreads)
Fluffwise, I can go either way. If I go fallen, then I'll write my own new Demon God. There are, after all, more than just the "Big Four" and using "counts as" is the engine GW gave us to write our own backstories.
Then there is the issue of making the list actually work. I figure I'll be using a Word Bearer list. That being said, the sisters would easily make decent 6 model infiltrating squads with melta guns. It would be simple enough to convert meltas to plas if needed.
The real problem is that sister models are hard to convert for almost anything since they are one-piece metal. For example, Bikes. I can get around this by using Space Marine bikes, since, after all, they might have fallen along with the sisters... It would also be great since my chappy on bike would make a great Dark Apostle.
So the list should be able to include (armylistwise):
Perhaps a Bloodthirster
Which leads me to the next issue, of course, how the heck do I deal with tanks? Give the Sisters autocannons? Model "Fallen marines" into the fluff and bring devestators? I don't think this list can really use tanks.
If you are still reading, and I appreciate it if you are The shrine they are protecting is of the Emperor's Bride. What you say? He was never married? Well of course we know he wasn't! Just like we KNOW another messiah figure was never married... or do we... I think it fits perfectly with the vague secrecy and cloak and daggeriness of the Imperium.
But that aside, does anyone have thoughts on making the armylist/modeling work?
[Please refrain from letting this devolve into fluff-bashing. I've been reluctant to post this since some folks here are very ... conservative about the fluff only allowing what is exactly written anywhere.]
I like the concept.
Hey fable, so here's some ideas on how to convert those sisters in to spikey chaos sisters.
instead of grinding down the symbols, file it down as much as you dare, and then putty over the rest.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
I've got more on where some unit ideas come from:
Penitent Engine: A sister asked to go beyond the repentia and be bound in the engine. Once there she had a vision of how the universe was meant to be from the Bride herself. The should bring Joy and Peace to the Imperium, and destroy those who would preach the heresy of torture as a form of redemption(or something like that)
Repentia: These are martyrs who come back to fight in times of great peril, Or they can just be female demons that have bigger swords than the demonettes...
