Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've been playing quite a few games with friends using regular Chaos Marine models to proxy as Noise Marines and their Blastmaster with autocannon etc.. I am very intrigued by the versatility of a single Havoc Blastmaster squad with tank-hunt could do to vehicles as well as infantries. I am also very fond of the Slaanesh Bikers with Sonic Blasters that could fire its Heavy3 mode on the move. Combat Drug is just a monster that makes my fire magnet statured lord even tougher and able to absorb more punishment before it crumbles.
Anyone here have the experience with Slaanesh that could give me a few advice on using Possessed? I am thinking about giving them Flight and a pair of lightning claw to the champion as to replace the biker squad. What about the Slaanesh dreadnought? is the Blastmaster a good option for it? Also, I am a little uncleared about the Doom Siren. Does it directly modify your attack sequence even if you are equipped with power fist?
I love these small sized army, they are much like a SM Deathwind army.. with minimal models to buy and paint, but a very fun army to play with.
So many.. questions! Why won't they stop??
You have a good grasp of blast masters. They tend to function best when they're concentrated in a squad - aka Havocs or havocs. I think the dreadnought should do well with the blast master too. Fire frenzy with that beast should be very amusing.
Sonic blasters also, are generally best on bikers who can take full advantage of the superior rate of fire.
As for combat drugs, a lot of people like them and use them, but anything that can kill you, no matter how fun they may be, is never a good idea. So kids - DON'T DO DRUGS.
Possessed are one of the Chaos codex's least used units because of their astronomical point cost. Slaaneshi ones are pretty good though because their warp scream ability offers a lot of protection against MEQs (in that they normally strike first).
The latest incarnation of the codex clears up the power fist affair. Basically, it means that you always strike in initiative order. So, it sucks and is an expensive flamer unless you have talons or venom.
The options you've chosen don't tend to be competitive, and mostly you'll get advice telling you to drop expensive units for more troops.
None the less, if you enjoy the expensive troops and small armies, then please go crazy.
Check out the HQ Configuration Tacita for some great slaaneshi HQ ideas.
Welcome to the darkside
The blastmaster havoc squad idea is a brutal one.. I use them myself, and, while very expensive, they do put out an obscene ammount of hurt. They are not too hot against marines, relatively speaking, but against poorly armoured troops, vehicles and monstrous creatures they are well worth taking. The psychological effect of dropping a blast marker and then multiplying the number of models hit by 4 is also a great jaw dropper.
I don't use combat drugs.. They are very expensive, and very 'general' in effect, so I'd probably skip them. They reek of the 'one man army' school of HQ design.. There are other upgrades which make your HQ a better specialist at a lower points cost.
The problem I can see is that you're going for all the expensive units.. Consider switching the possessed for a few close combat noise marines with a blastmaster or doom siren in the squad. They will be slightly less spectacular, but the higher numbers will make them more resiliant and stable. A deathwing style min-max army will break like paper when confronted with any real numbers..
My advice, take at least one unit of padding for every point-sack unit in your army. CC noise marines, daemonettes, that kind of thing.. An army entirely based around expensive units will be harsh to play, and completely unforgiving of any mistakes you might make.
The other day I tried a game of a Big HQ, Terminators, Possessed, Land raiders and bikes against a Balanced Nid force.
Chaos got absolutely mullered. Total butchery. Terminators still die to enough S3 attacks.
So.. definitely try daemonettes. Relatively cheap, ward save and very offensive - i mean running around naked, honestly. HAVE THEY NO SHAME!?
Oh Demonettes, how can I ever forget them -- I'm painting them right as I am typing.
I always include two squads of 6 each, and hope for a delayed summon until either my biker squad or my lieutenant on bike gets into close combat on the second turn, and summon on the third.
My lastest game using Slaanesh was yesterday against a SM friend who took quite a few plasma cannon and a hvy bolter devestator squad, backed up by 3 land speeders and a vindicator in a 1350pt game. My first squad of Demonette were summoned out of reach and they were quickly cut to ribbon (Oh the poor girls). My second squad were summoned right in the middle of a fierce fight between my remaining 3 bikers, against a Dreadnought, Master w/ Lightning Claw, a squad of 6 tactical marines. Those 6 Demonettes managed to do stuff that totally dropped my friend's high hope for the win... they wiped out the entire Tatical Marine in one turn, then consolidated into the Master after the Biker champion w/ p. fist immoblised the Dreadnought. Then, they killed the master and piled into the Dreadnought.. AND, they detached one of its arm (weapon destroyed result). These rending beasts are nothing more than a pure amazement, and I would take these demonettes over genestealers any day, just because the fact they are summoned instead of having to trode over the battlefield on the first turn.
Don't forget the CC marines though.. They're solid enough to make good padding for yuor other units, and with a power weapon/strength/mutation champion they can still put out the hurt.
