I'm starting an Obliterator Cult LatD army (bought the Oblits the day after yesterday and MY are they pretty), what suggestions do people have for making this list interesting/competitive?
The stuff I've thought about so far is:
ACs and Arch Heretic with Obliterator Dæmon Gifts (Dæmonic Aura, Dæmonic Resilience & Dæmon Armour, modelled to have the virus and one of them with a Kai Gun
Lots of mutants, modelled to have the virus
Big Mutants done similarly
Small infiltrating squads of Traitors with heavy weapons
Terminator armour is cheaper than aura and armour and gives deepstrike and an extra attack. Maybe use a counts as here?
Everything else looks like a pretty standard LatD army (except the conversions) so I can't see any problems.
Check out my Codex: Farmyard Animals here!
If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Terminator armour also fits Obliterators better (aren't Obliterators in Termie armour anyway?) It gives you 2+ save, invulnerable save and deepstrike just like Oblits...
Sounds like a cool idea, you could even model the Traitors to look a bit like Oblits, with lots of greenstuff and guns poking out, and the heavy/special weapons a bit bigger...
Takka n' Wakka's Dakka Attacka! 33W / 6L / 1D
I remember when I was thinking of the same concept..
Firstly, I don't think sticking armour upgrades on the ACs and Heretic is a good idea.. Because they're presumably going to be stuck in squads of mutants, they're just going to be made useless by majority armour rules. Rather than having the ACs and so forth as obliterators themselves, they could be the marines responsible for the horde.. Perhaps some kind of sorceror who controls them all telepathically, a mad scientist type, etc.
In fact.. don't forget the dirge caster, which could make a very flavourful altenative to aspiring champions. Sadly, the number of chaos vehicles available is pretty limited.. but a big stompy defiler (perhaps some poor vehicle driver who got too 'attached' to his ride) with souped up mutated armour and a dirge caster might well keep your mutie horde fearless for long enough to facilitate a charge up the centre of the board.
Alternately, the expensive option is to get a squad of chosen with a land raider.. but that just seems a bit much.
Signor Mantis, I do believe you're getting majority armour and majority toughness mixed up!
Basically, majority armour simply dictates who takes saves first. everyone gets to use their own armour save.
Majority toughness simply takes the modal average for the toughness when determing how many wounds are scored.
Terminator armour is also good because it doesn't take from the daemon gift limit (meaning you can afford to get daemonic resilience and strength) and it limits your movement which will make the obliterator experience all that more important.
Remember that firearms are free and quite powerful! Plus, it's great having your mutants melt themselves down. You could even convert Defilers heavily and try using them as really big oblits.
See Andusciassus for his Nurgly Defiler. It's amazing what's possible.

You should also consider giving your Champs the mark of Tzeentch. This way they could have (with the use of a familiar) both Bolt of Change and Doombolt, which would make them rather Obliterator like when combined with the things mentioned by the others.
Oh, and by all means give them thralls too and you'll be in for a shooting fiest...
EDIT: I'll post some pics of my Heavy Weapon Traitors, they could work well in a Obliterator Cult LatD I think...two members forming a heavy weapon team:shifty:
