This probably breaks every Chaos fluff rule there is, but if I don't ask I'll never know.
I've picked up my Chaos book agian lately, blew off the dust and started to really like what I saw. So, after my Eldar I'll probably collect Chaos for a second army.
But I liked what I saw too much. Basically, I like all the legions and their specialities. For example, I love Slaanesh weapons. I love Nurgle, uh, skills? (if you can call them that). I love Word Bearers ability to have loads of daemons. I love Alpha Legions infiltrating marines and cultists. I love Iron Warriors cheesyness (cmon, you gotta love lots of heavy support and/or obliterators). I love Thousand Sons multiple wounds and sorcery. I love Khornes bezerkers. I love Night Lords...actually, I don't like them very much, but whatever. The list goes on.
So I was wondering if it would be possible to make a legion who varies upon it's tactics (therefore varying the legion it bases itself upon). I can't think of a solid reason why; maybe they are a small legion and need to vary their tactics? What I prefer is that they change their tactics depending on the Chaos Gods will. Or how about just where they are in the galaxy and what enemies they face?
Would this work or not? I would make up a custom colour scheme (obviously) and try and include as much of the other's as possible. One thing I can say is that it'll be very very dark.
Cheers in advance.

Two words for you: Black Legion.
This is exactly why they were made, fluffwise - the Black Legion has each and every Mark, up to you as to what you want to add, and is easily the most versatile Chaos Legion out there. You can literally put anything from the CSM codex into your army list, pending on what you want.
Just keep in mind that anything that has a different Mark of Chaos than your "general" will be booted to Elites, and the Gods' sacred hatred thingy, etc. etc.
Chaos are possibly the most diverse/customizable race in 40k IMO, with all the different legions and wargear. The problem is I know I will want to field a pure Slaaneshi army sometimes. And I know I want to field a Word Bearers army with up to 9 troops choices. Black Legion could do neither of these, just improvise.
What I want is a legion that does them all. I know it's easiest to say "I'm using xxx legion rules this time" for gameplay, but for fluff I'm a bit stumped.
Would it be possible to take a Lord with MoCU, and a Lt with, say, Mark of Khorne, and thus have Berzerkers for Troops? Or is it only if the head honcho has the same Mark?
You could always check out.. .Word Bearers I think it is. IIRC they have access to all daemons.

Chaos cheesy? Coming from an Eldar player? ...
after 10 minutes of laughing, this is what I suggest to you:
Create your own legion mate. Make the fluff as crazy as you want. Paint them your own colours, as long as you use a legal rule set, no one should bother you at all. I have my own legion in my own colours. I've used them as Alpha Legion, Night Lords, slaaneshi black legion, Nurgle.
No one minds - as long as the list is legal.
As lost nemesis wisely advised with his beard of doom, you'll be mainly using Black Legion rules, but nothing stops you from calling them something different and using your own colours.
So be creative and good luck
The thing is I don't want Black Legion because I want the other Legion's rules sometimes. Unless you are talking about using Black Legion fluff, in which case I don't know much about it; I'll read the fluff bit in the Codex about them ASAP.
I think I'll probably say they go with whichever God etc they are fighting for.
I still don't see the problem... for the times you want to use a slaaneshi based army, just use black legion/slaanesh cult rules and models.
For the times you want to have an infiltrating army of doom, just use alpha legion rules and undivided marine models.
The only thing that's exclusive is the marks of chaos for the marines. That's all
I'm not bothered about Black Legion fluff particularly. You can create your own to justify pretty much any combinantion you want. As long as your army is legal, people shouldn't... can't complain at all.
