Given a marine a sonic blaster and close combat weapon.
Question: Does the Sonic Blaster count as a one handed weapon therefore you get bonus cc hit in cc right?
I am having trouble. . .
As far as I know there's only two criteria for using a ranged weapon to count as an extra CCW and thus gain bonus attack:
If the model has True Grit (in which case you gain the extra attack but don't get a bonus attack for charging)
If the weapon is a Pistol (as stated in the weapon profile)
Sonic Blaster isn't a pistol and CSM with Mark of Slaanesh don't get True Grit so I don't believe they get any bonus attack.
Takka n' Wakka's Dakka Attacka! 33W / 6L / 1D
It's also a rapid fire weapon, not a pistol.. Only weapons with the 'pistol' attribute in their profile can be used with an additional close combat weapon.
In short, I wouldn't take sonic blasters, they're an assault weapon which reduces your power in an assault. Noise marines will almost always do more damage in close combat than they will blasting away at range with their hideously expensive guns.
Blastmasters are far more interesting.
While Sonic Blasters are expensive, it's always good to have some to hand, especially in small games when you can;'t be shedding all those points for a Blastmaster-laden havoc squad. Blastamsters do go in regular squads, yes, which is probably a much better idea than loading out on Sonic Blasters, but I tend to favour a balance. I have one shooty and two choppy squads, that seem to do the job fairly well.
As for the original question on true grit, that specifically states that it only works with a Bolter (I'll find a page reference when I get home). A Sonic Blaster isn't a bolter. The fact that all CSM come with a CC weapon is for modelling purposes, if you decide to give them a bolt pistol, or they're Death Guard.
That reminds me: only Plague Marines get True Grit, who can't be given Sonic Blasters...
Okay I'll tell you why I am posting this more indepth.
1st of all the Sonic Blaster is Assault gun, therefore you can shoot AND assault.
2nd, GW Interactive Army list posts the sonic blasters as a single handed weapon.
Now going onto the rule book.
PG. 40 states that you gain an additional attack in close combat and pistol does count, but does not always mean you HAVE to have a pistol. In the end of the rule you will see it say " you only get one extra attack regardless of whether you have two or more single handed weapons.
True Grit works on -Two Handed weapons - and a near example is that storm bolters are two handed weapons and yet the Sonic Blaster I guess is not? Even if modeled that way, I guess the codex isn't exactly clear on that point..
So i guess the question really lies.. is sonic blaster a one handed weapon or two.
EDIT: Or if it counts as an item of wargear, like the doom siren. Wargear doesn't use up any hands..
It never specifies that bolters are a two handed weapon, or that lascannons are either. It's coded into the profile, not some extra special rule on top of the profile.
The interactive army list obviously made an error. Sonic blasters are two handed, as are meltaguns, flamers, Tau pulse carbines, eldar shuriken catapults and every other assault weapon.

Yet the Codex Chaos Marines are able to wield both a ccw and gun.You still have the ability to have to get a ccw as a base additional to the sonic blaster. .Weapons: Each model may have a close combat weapon and either a bolter, or a bolt pistol.
A marine is not given the ability unless they have true grit, but these aren't standard SM.
Also the inability to wield the guns are shown through the lack of option of handling both a gun and ccw (like the tau fire warrior with the single gun option) or by the rapid fire guns and rule.
GW interactive army lists are NO replacement for a codex, some pen and paper.
That's the source of your problems mate. Just use the codex.
The Mantis and Monsieur Cartier have answered the question correctly. You're trying to find something which isn't there.
Sonic blasters always replace two handed weapons. The only units which this doesn't bother are bikes and terminators.. and dreadnoughts.. and predators...
