Hi. My friends and i recently started a new warhammer army. I chose Emperors Children and have Just got smashed by dark reapers in a 40k in 40mins game (400pts) .
How do i stop them?
Oh, that's tough. Dark Reapers are a hard counter to MEQ armies.
1) You can't outshoot them. Don't even try. Don't load your squads with Sonic Blasters.
2) Don't let them shoot at you. Get into cover, hide behind it, use a Rhino.
3) Proxy some Daemonettes and try how they work. Full squad of DR can kill only 10 'ettes a turn max. A twelve-head squad summoned from your nearest CSM pack should cut the panzies into ribbons.
I'm not too familiar with Dark Reapers, but I know my friend is planning on basing his new Eldar off of them. So, can anyone explain to me what they do and why they are so MEQ killy?
I'm IW and if I can't outshoot them I'm probably dead lol.
Dark Reapers are Elder Aspect Warriors that are made to kill MEQs at long range. Their weapons are Marine killers. And they put enough shots into your squads so that with a bit of luck they can destroy an entire squad in one turn of shooting. Combined with Exarch powers they can be really really nasty. They are also comparatively heavily armored.
(I do suggest that you look at an Eldar Codex for the specifics).
There weapons used to be 36" range, but I am not sure if that has changed with the new codex (it hass been a while since I read it). So potentially you could try to outshoot them at 48" range. Which of course can be a problem for most Chaos armies.
However the key to winning against them is to deny them LOS and to try to take them on in HTH. So try to make use of terrain and infiltration as much as you can. Try to summon your deamons as close to them as possible, so that you can potentially charge in without getting shot at.
Shut up and play.
uhmmmm, i don't know if I can go into too much detail but I'll tell you that they have AP3 guns that can fire 2 shots at 4 feet across the board, which is very deadly to pretty much all MEQ armies, and their worse when they have a farseer by them that casts guide on them which lets them reroll their misses. And with the first poster's question...I play eldar also and i have 2 squads of reapers and the best thing to stay away from them is to keep moving as they must be stationary to shoot, also stay out of fire lanes but if you cant make use of cover as much as possible.
Dang, lamenter beat me to it..
Now here's the simple, yet not so easy option: assault them. Getting into assault range can be tricky, but not impossible. The dark reapers now have some really nice upgrades and options for the exarch, rhinos work wonders.
You CAN outgun them, they are small squads, and don't take damage well, and are rarely if ever in the range of the avatar's ability.
Lock down fire lanes with infiltrating autocannons, and move your own troops up your dominated fire lanes. Make your oponent decide whether he wants to move his reapers to try to shoot at your troops(he'll most likely chose no) and make them a non-issue.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
I've killed them easily, sometimes not. You can out gun them I'd suggest Heavy Bolter squads (they work, they over come they saves very well) or Autocannos if you really want to stay out of range.
Best thing to do it target them with armour, or bikers/deamons, the bikers can turbobosst to get close for a charge and they'll be invulneravble to the DR weapons.
thanks for all your help. (ive just gone rep happy) well hopefully todays battle goes differently.
