Greetings brothers of terror! So far I have been a lurker, but I love this site!
My question is very simple. What is a legal icon? I play Undivided and all my Acs have a skull surrounded by spiky points on the end of a pole to represent the icon. The Codex indicates that an icon is the symbol of the patron god. It does not indicate any specific place on the model that the icon must be placed, only that it should be represented on the model. So a shoulder pad is acceptable? Also in an Undivided army couldn’t pretty much anything represent an icon?
Correct, as long as it is noticeable then it is a perfectly legal icon.
Rork: In the dark future of the 41st millennium there is only friendship.
Fenrir: and magic.
Kaiser-: My Little Chaos Marine, Friendship is Heresy?
Yes, that's fair. Just make sure you are consistent with what you use as icons in your army, and ensure that you tell your opponent what differentiates an icon bearer from a standard marine.
So a fancy/different coloured shoulder pad is perfectly acceptable (I for one went the whole hog and used banners from Chaos Warriors).
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
There is actually a symbol for Chaos Undivided, which is the "star" sort of icon. See page 22 of the codex for a picutre with an example of it - that spikey star on the little head hanging from the guy's neck is an adequate symbol for it, and there are models for it... off the top of my head, I can think of the icon included in the WHFB Chaos Warriors sprue, but it may be in the CSM sprue, too.
The icon can technically be anything, I'm sure, but I'd recommend more than anything something that has to be held, at least, like a standard. I wouldn't have an issue with the icon itself, for Undivided, though the star makes a good one.
Ok good. I just got done modeling a tricked out AC biker. I wanted to do something different than the typical symbol of Undivided. I used a disk with a stretched out face on the end of a pole full of heads for the icon. So that is acceptable. Thanks!
