just wanted to know people's opinion's on true grip in the field of battle. i field death guard, and i've found it somewhat useless on the attack, as a fielding a 7 man squad with bolters and ccw (plus 2 meltas) means that in order to assault, i can't shoot, which pretty much negates the melta as a weapon, cause they only work within 12".
i only figured this out the hard way so i've had to change a couple of squads of nurgle's best to bolt pistols.
perhaps it is effective in defence, i.e. bolter squads, but it just seems a bit pointless is all
anybody else feel the same?
dude, true grit (i assume thats what you ment) is what makes deathguard so potentionally powerfull.
you dont have to have the entire squad shoot, and because the meltas are assault you can shoot them and then charge. the thing is. its probably for the better that you dont shoot a whole lot before you assault. the crafty opponent will remove front rank people just to stop you from being able to make it
it allows a squad that is advancing, laying down constant fire. to then instantly switch roles and then assault with no real loss of effectiveness.

You can elect not to shoot the bolters. You can just shoot the meltas and then assault.
If you have a dedicated assault squad who always takes the fight to the enemy, then by all means b.pistols and cc weapons are usefull to get that extra charge attack, and extra shots on charging.
Personally, I really like true grit, but I like using Plague Guard quite conventionally. When you get assaulted and you have an extra attack, it's very usefull, especially on the aspiring champion.
Still, each to their own.

okay. i didn't think you could make certain guys shoot and others not. is it in the rulebook? i couldn't see it.
True Grit is a defensive maneuver IMO.
You walk your men up to rapid fire range, showring the enemy with shells & what have you, then you sit back as they charge you only to have your Bolter men have more attacks than they should.
And in the rulebook (I'm around 500-600km away from it) I think it says you make the shots for ANY MODEL/S YOU WISH TO SHOOT WITH.
So yeah, it does exist in the rulebiik, but I'm not sure about the wording and italicising isn't working so', dont mistake me for thinking CAPSlock is cruise control for cool.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Plague marines are the renaissance chaos marine- decent at both ranged and c.c.. Marines geared for c.c. often have issues with Nids and Dark Eldar. For this reason, some players will change their tactics with their c.c. units into some kind of 'one round ranged support squad,' rather than charge directly into certain death. Plague marines- being kitted for c.c. and ranged- enables them to sit back a a comfortable distance and pick away at pesky genestealers and wytches, and then manage what's left in c.c. using True Grit. The greatest advantage of plague marines is their versatility.

*walks into rapid fire range*
*unloads bolters and plasma into squad*
*said mauled squad charges my squad*
*enemy gets a face load of attacks*
*death guard win*
Its an awesome ability now rhino rush is nerfed (well, since when did DG rhino rush?), it makes charging a unit that just shot you equally risky as receiving another round of fire.
Space wolves are also masters of it (ESPECIALLY the 13th company).
I tend to field at least three Rhinos(the third or even fourth as a FA choice) in my DG army.
I find that the move 12", jump out, double tap option followed by the opponent charging me and getting creamed by the squad and the PF armed AC works great.
Taking so many Rhinos in a DG list may not seem fluffy, but it works pretty well, especially since the tournaments I play in always comp points for having at least one of every type of slot (Ie HQ, Elite, Troop, FA, HS) ect.
What else are you going to take as a FA choice in a DG list otherwise anyways?
In my opinion, True grit and DG rock.
