    Armies that arent what they seem.

    I'm not 100% positive that his is the place for this and not in the 40k Tactica and then again im talking about Chaos Space Marines so.. Yeah. Move it if necessary!

    Okay, your at your local 40k hangout spot. You get a game going. The other player says;

    "SO what are you going to play this time?" you answer;

    "Iron Warrior"

    So then the player whips out a huge army of cheap troops or tons of ant-armor (Anything that does well again IW) So then you pull out your army but, surprise! You have for squads of CC marines loaded up in Rhinos, Lieutenants in jetpack and other fast units backed up by a Basilisk and some other kind of Iron Warriors things like Obliterators or Predators.

    Ever thought to fake out an opponent so they aren't going to expect a complete tactical change like that?

    Just wanted to know, please down go "Aw shaddup" and flame me, I burn easily.

    ~Thanks!

    It's been a minute.

    Hey! you know that you had the same reaction as me! I just decide to play iron warrior some times ago and people though...oh no...4 HS and 9 obliterator but when I show them my mechanized list with 4 rhinos of troop,3 oblis,4 tanks in heavy support(defiler,basilik,pred and LD, nothing scary actually) and some CC heroes well they're pretty surprised.

    Well, when people see my rhinos they go, CC marines. I can take those on. Then i roll up, jump out, and shoot them. Then they are like, ouch that hurt, but at least they are not close combat. Then they find out that my Chaos marines have furious charge and the AC has a power sword and i charge them. The the say "Aye! DIOS MIOS!".

    You've chosen the right path if you want to pull tricks like that. Chaos is flexible beyond measure. THere are still many combinations which people haven't explored yet.

    My favourite is taking on an anti meq army with so many marines that they simply can't cope.

    There's just too many things you can do it's great.

    I just tell them, "I play Chaos" and let them flounder while they decide whether i'm going to go Alphas/Nightlord/Slurgle etc etc.

    Still, it encourages balanced all comers lists

    X- D - Picture the scene:

    Chaos Guy, "Oh, you play Freeks? Dang, that's a lot of minis you've got there."

    Ork Guy, "If only they had Power Armour Saves." [smiles]

    CG, "Your Greenskins up for a game?"

    OG, "2000 points okay?" [smiles again]

    CG, "Two thousand? Okay, I guess. Let's see . . . ."

    [Uncrates 115 CSM infantry and 6 vehicles]

    OG, [no longer smiling] "Um, could I see your List, please?"

    CG, "Sure."

    180 orks, ie 6 mobs of 30 orks (includes 3 rokkits, + 1 rokkit for the nob) = roughly 1700 points, leaving enough points for a Warboss, some Skarboys a few killer kans.

    So yeah, you would need a big table. :yes:

    I once proxy-tested an Iron Warriors army that consisted of 4, 6 man havoc squads, each with 4 Heavy Bolters and then a bunch of "normal" stuff (basic marine squads, a few obliterators for anti-tank, generic daemon prince, etc). I don't know if that would qualify as playing against type for Iron Warriors, but I don't think I've ever heard of anybody else pouring all their heavy support into Heavy Bolters.

    It worked pretty good, 48 heavy bolter shots a turn will make short work of any kind of infantry. Never made it though, because frankly I think stand-and-shoot armies are kind of boring (to play, I actually like fighting them).

    I have been contemplating an Iron Warriors army with 4 Havoc squads decked out with assault weapons and rhinos.

    Or night lords with 3 Havoc squads and lots of stealth.

    Or an Alpha Legion army with 120 Cultists.

    How and what would you use to field that many!
    "Drive me closer so I can hit them with my sword"!
