    Demon horde

    Hi all

I would like to make a full demon army like in warhammer fantasy but i was wondering if that was possible to do for 40k. I know i can use word bearers but i want to also only use metal models and im not to keen on the platic marines, the reason for this is also as it will mainly just be for display.

So if any of you could help me to think of models i could use such as belakor for the demon prince and demons for troops.

Also what do you think is one of the better demon choices, as it will be for display i have so far been thinking tzeench and slaneesh.

    Thanks for the help

ps i also collect demon huters lol

I think the closest you could get to a full dæmon army is by having a dæmon prince (probably Word Bearers, as you said) as your HQ, as you need at least one not summoned or possessed model for your units to come out of. then if you wanted to use greater dæmons he could be the vessel, and if you just wanted to use lesser he (the DP) could have an icon. You could either roll dæmon bomb (run down the field with Siren) or, if you have a soul (which I'm convinced most dæmon bomb players do not just kidding) you could have a sort of minimized DP and hide him behind terrain while you summon fast dæmons like Furies and have them rush down.

To answer your question, yes it is possible, but in my opinion it would not be very competitive. Fortunately, if does not look like that's what your going for

    Hope that helps

    Hey Champ! Welcome to LO!

    Forgive me for rambling on, but I hope you can gather something out of my writings, as boring as they are{goofy}

Simon makes a fine point.... Daemons need other foot troops to come from (icons) or a Greater Daemon (acts like an icon). But then the Greater Daemon needs a foot troop to come from....

I think possessed would be a good place to start. No upgrades, just cheap as possible. The Showcase area has some good pics (User called Leech comes to mind) and conversions. As for metal Possessed, most people will probably tell you the GW ones suck. I'm one of those people

The current Daemon Prince for 40K made by GW is also a good choice, my own had the big shoulder pads taken off to expose some more muscle and skin, although his right shoulder would need some work as the shoulderpad can't cover that areaand it's a bit shoddy. The other shoulder should be ok.

Obliterators seem to fit the theme, seeing as they as also a metal/daemon fused entity, maybe some conversion or limb swaps the help shift the daemon-skin to metal ratio would help.

Now that is all pretty obvious, but I feel you really want to shy away from the armour and futuristic aspects of the army, and strictly focus on daemonic, in which case the obove mentioned still doesn't fit the bill for your plan.

So... going for a Greater Daemon. Thats a good place to start. Be'lakor is also a great choice, I have thought of getting him myself for exactly the same purpose (or at least pilfer his sword ). Maybe a bit more armour on him would work, but he would be fine 'as is'. Depends on how 'futurisic' you want it to look, compared to daemonic.

Daemons fit the Troops and Fast attack... what about vehicles or gun-things? There have been some damn fine vehicle conversions in showcase area that I think would fit how you want to go. It really depends on what time and effort you are willing to invest to make these Check out the showcase:yes:

Also remember there is Lost and the Damned- that could help you add some fancy things and more Icons for your daemons with resorting to Chaos Marines.

A picture from memory of a White Dwarf comes to mind in regards to deamons, it was 2x Wood Elf Dryads sorta merged together, one on top of the other, but off center a bit. It was painted wacky colours, and lookedgreat, and quite deamonic/evil, in more of a sorcerous/magic way thank a real/mutated animal way. I always thought it looked cool =P

Okidoke, the daemons serve all different purposes. Going for a bit of everything would be the way to go. That means having an Undivided Lord, but not strictly Word Bearers (but they would be a fine choice:yes: )

I really can't stress Horrors of Tzeentch enough. They are the most deamonic model GW ever produced, other than Be'lakor IMO (use them as Flamers of Tz when you play, they're better). Some Bloodletters and Daemonettes are competitive, and some Furies would be good too. Furies are generally underrated, and I hardly ever see them anymore.

Some Flesh Hounds would be cool, too, but you could convert some that would look better than the existing model.
A friend of mine once had an idea to get the metal Chaos Hounds, and take off some metal around the neck the make a green stuff 'Collar of Khorne'. They would probably need a bit more thought as to paint scheme, because, as Chaos Hounds, they don't look too daemonic, but still visually are very rabid and cool

I don't know what else to say, to be honest. I'll wait a bit and see some other replies to get the creative juices flowing some more

Nonetheless, most Chaos players have thought of something along these lines before I bet, myself included. There should be some good ideas out there! Its a good idea, I hope you go through with it.

Again, apologies if I was exhaustive or repeated what has already been said

    Good Luck!

From a tactical stand point, use wordbearers and then enjoy all the daemons choices.

Take Flamers to fill a fire support roll.

Take Daemonettes to be killy in CC.

Take Blood letters to deal with marines and terminators.

Take furies for speed support and objective grabbing.

All you need to think about, then , is the delivery system.

Do you want something reliable? Because having an entirely daemon based army fits into only one tactic in 40K - the daemon bomb.

You might need a squad or two of marines or bikers to ensure that you're not destroyed on the first turn with just the daemon prince on the field.

It's plausible, and may even be tactically viable.. but it's on the cusp of being a 'gimmick' based army. i.e it'll either devastate your opponent or you'll be smashed.

    Hi all

Id like to say thanks for all the gfreat advice been given so far its really helped me and given me some nice ideas. I will definately be checking out the showcase for inspiration and think the idea for demonic vehicles sound cool perhaps all the actual marines could be possessed with their vehicles?

Anyway thanks for all the ideas they are really helpful and have made me motivated to get going with this project, also dont worry about the army being to competative as it will mostly be just a display piece but i would like it to be legal too just in case :shifty:

Oh yeah i may have a demon bomb army but i lost my soul to the warp long before then lol

    cheers

    wilks

Daemon bombs don't have to be cheesy, and they don't have to be crap either.

You're clearly going for a specialist army, so that's cool. But not all daemon bombs involve bikers turbo boosting or siren princes. So kudos for that. It'd be nice to see the daemon bomb being done differently.

My advise, as alway - post a list, get some constructive crit, and then see how you feel about it
