OK, I hate to be coming to you chaos scum to help me with a problem I hate (jk), but I've agreed to dust off my horrid past (tzeentch) and battle it out (3000 or so points) with the Emperor's Children for a Grudge match of the gods!
Anywho, I'ts been a while, and my army is even more unbalanced than most Thousand sons armies so, I need some refreshers, hints, advise, tactics, etc...
CALLING ALL OF TZEENTCH'S FAITHFUL!
OK, Here Is what I have...:
1 Pimped out daemon prince
16 rubric marines (could be anything tho)
2 aspiring champs with CCW(or power weapon) and bolt pistols
9 horros/flamers (could be either)
2 preds, one hull in twin heavy bolter, and the other in lascannon. I have a twin-linked lascannon turret, and an autocannon turret.
6 chosen termies
1 ahriman (sorcerer)
1 lord w/combi-melta & powerfist
1 land raider
Any anywho, thats about it, YES i CAN make 3000 points out of that!
Well, here is what I was thinking:
Take the horrors as flamers
two squads of rubrics
two preds, one in destructor, the other in tri-las
pimped out chosen squad, and socerer (everyone with spellz, muahahaha)
pimped out daemon prince.
...and a land raider....
Anywho, as you can see this isn't very...err...competative, but is more of a battle of hubris.
(ie. "my daemon prince is bigger than yours, my god is better" etc...).
But any tactics would be helpful.
He has (I think) 2 big ol' squads of those pink bastards (with excessive sound equipment), a rather large squad of chosen, a land raider, and a defiler i think. Oh, and daemon prince.
Any way I could possible pull out even a tie with this? The fate of all overpriced, underpowered tzeentchians depends on this battle! (again... jk).

A 3000 points, in order to have a chance to win with thousand sons, you'll need at least 5 squads of Rubric Marines. I also suggest you convert your chosen termies (you must have 2 reaper autocannon in the squad) into Rubric Terminators, they last much longer. Since you play a big game, make all your horrors as flamers. Horrors aren't good, flamers are slightly better, but neither are realy good. Have you daemon prince to be able to move fast. Use a sorcerer as lieutenant and fit him in the land raider with a squad of rubric marines. If you could use some rhinos, it would help your army to do better. 2 Predators : 1 Autocannon, lascannon sponsons (this one is static) and the other is Lascannon turret + Heavy bolters sponsons (he is the hunter, he moves 6'' each turn). I would also suggest to use power fist on your AC instead of power weapons. If you don't get more troops, you don't stand a chance. And I assumed you played a pure Thousand Sons Army.

this is the third time copying and pasting this, but it gives a good picture of the 1000 sons army and how they work, forgive me for the stuff you may already know, but I don't have time right now to filter out the less useful stuff for those who aren't new.
okay, I've been playing tzeentch for almost/about 3 years now.
Tzeentch/1000 sons, is a typically slow army, as they always move as though in difficult terrain. 1ksons are expensive troops, but as such, their staying power is comparable only to necrons, (as 1ksons have 2 wounds). Seeing as they are slow, rhino's are your friends.
Your other troops are flamers (I'm going to ignore horrors because they SUCK) these are NOT to be used as rank and file they are just too fragile to use as such, I use these basically to get rid of masses of medium armored CC specialists (examples, genestealers, eldar aspect warriors) as they are basically troops with doombolt.
your other good friends are psychic powers. as your basic troops are unupgradable, the duty of CC specialist and heavy/special weapons falls to the aspiring champions. in other words, in other legions, the aspiring champs are there to help the rest of the squad in close combat, and provide support. In a 1ksons army, the rubric marines are there to protect the aspiring champ (AC), so don't feel bad about spending 100+ points on one, (just make sure that all the upgrades are useful).
another thing that 1ksons is a little short on is anti-tank. the easiest remedy is typically with tanks. the general consensus is that a predetor with 1 autocannon, 2 lascannons, and demonic possession is the best layout.
HQ choices for 1ksons are often used for support as opposed say, a khornate lord, that goes around and wrecks your opponent's army. typically, you only need an LT or two that run around with your marines and fire off Bolts of Change, or a fast one with wind of chaos and flight/disc that works as a counter charge. One layout that I personally like is using a greater demon, and have a LT follow the squad with the demonvessel around, and when the demon comes out, you still have a character with the squad of rubrics to replace the AC (don't spend a lot of points on that one!!)
there arent very many options available to 1ksons, but it is a rewarding army to play well, and even though the troops are very resilliant, it is still a challenging army to play competetively.
I wish you the best of luck, and hope my information is helpful.
