I hate them,
Alright, the other night I was playing a game against my friend who plays an ultra marine army, everything was going great. My Khornate DP had just totaled both of his tanks in the same turn (thanks to the wonders of the sweeping advance rule). Then on his turn his termie HQ retinue brutaly mutalated my poor DP with there monsterous auto cannons.
I mean, come on a heavy weapon with 4 attacks that wounds on a roll of 6? Although my lord has feel no pain...it didn't help much.
Anyways to avoid this in the future?
Sweeping advance rules do not apply to vehicles, as they have no leadership(so they cant fall back and therefore can not be sweeping advanced.)
I think you mean assualtcannons, not autocannons. Yes they do suck, but only if he rolls sixes. I never can, I never roll good for rending. Did your Dp have an invul save, that may have helped him survive, plus daemonic essence is always nice for an extra wound.

I think you are referring to the Assault Cannon. They are beastly weapons, but at least only 2 can be mounted in a terminator group. Your best bet is to try to stay away and shoot them, which usually doesn't work because they move 6" shoot quite far. Another option are massed plasma fire. If you have a few squads with plasma guns the silly terminators won't know what to shoot at. The last option I would recommend is engage them in CC. This doesn't work very well for Chaos unless you have specific units geared towards striking first, such as a beastly DP, Daemonettes, or my personal favorite - a unit of raptors with FC. Having initiative over these fellows is all you need to mow them down. But, in all honesty... the best option is really massed firepower that ignores armor saves. Think lascannon, plasma guns, and if you can... defiler shells!
If you want heavy weapon terminators, use oblits, which make assault cannons look sissy.
Not to mention 2 MCs.
Let marines have one weapon thats better then yours.
Btw, a terminator with Assault cannon is 10 points less then an obliterator, and has 1 less wound, and toughness, cant change its weapons, and isn't fearless.
He raises a valid point bout the difiler right thar.
Ever seen an assault cannon kill two chaos landraiders...I have, I did it with a crusader, then I killed Kharne...then used termies to kill the Bloodthirster...
Conclusion, Assault cannon are cheese...and hence I wont be using them soon.
If you call it a Missile launcher, then it'll never hit anything.

Anyway, back to the actual topic of this thread, I think any way you can inexpensively deny armor saves is a good way to take down Assault Cannon Terminators. I've been doing the dæmon thing lately and find Dæmonettes rather effective (especially with mobile Icons) but the previous suggestions of massed Plasma fire works pretty well too. Also, just to extrapolate on the previous suggestion of Raptors, you could get 3 Meltaguns + Furious Charge and cause a bunch of wounds with enough mobility to hopefully make a dent in the squad. Really I can't say more than EcchuBlessu has offensively and Kossolax has defensively.

Yeah, my DP has Feel No Pain and an Invulnerable save.
