I am planning on maybe getting a spined chaos beast(huge monsterous creature. Like a chaos version of a carnifex:w00t. However, I cant decide how to configure it.
I'm alowed to give it a mark of chaos:
mark of khorne will raise its attacks to 4 and giving it blood frienzy. This would make it very good in close combat and would solve the issue of it being slow.
mark of tzeentch will give it psycic powers... however it has a really bad balistic skill, so the only one that really seems useful would be wind of chaos(would be great as a pre charge attack.)
mark of slaanesh will give it warp scream, but doesn't sound too great compaired to the others.
mark of nurgle: a wopping T7! thats as good as a carnefex!
ok. now it can have 25pt of daemonic gifts: which should i choose:
essence would be good as it makes it more survivable with 5 wounds. combined with a high T and decent Invul, it could assure it gets into close combat. just as essence, resiliance could be useful, but then agian, it would not be compatable with mark of nurgle(can't take it twice:x). speed so it can get into cobat faste, which is very useful with everything but mark of khorne cuase blood frienzy is just as good in my bood(and free). I could give it str, which would give it S8(enough to kill SM instantly).
there are so many good choices, but i can't decide, so I'll leave it up to you chaos vets to help me out.
*note, I am not copying the rules from the codex, I am merely stating what the selection could do for the model.
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
First of, I don't really know the exact rules for Spined chaos beasts. However it is included in Armybuilder, so I'll give my 2 cents from what's in there.
A spined beast cannot take all daemonic gifts. It seems they're limited too;
If you'd take Mark of Nurgle you would have Resilience included without touching your Daemonic gifts list. So I'd go with that. I'd add in speed and strength. A fast charger w/ Str. 8, T7. 3 attacks base.
You could if you've got the small amount of points left throw in Visage. Might come in handy since your assaulting on your own probably. I'd skip Fire since a BS of 1 is a joke.
It did have an update. The beast has an 5+ inv. save now. Apart from the normal save
However, if you feel confident a T6, 4 attack model would pull of nice tricks, go for Khorne. I'd leave Tzeentch and Slaanesh for what it is.
Pretty much the same as the Nurgle one. Speed and strength. You need to get this guy into combat as soon as possible. And with S8 you'd kill of a marine or so, let alone IG, heh. But like I said, you could eventually try visage on it. The leadership modifier gives certain armies a bigger disadvantage then others.
As for resilience, +1T is good, but the beast already has high toughess. Essence.. hmhm... another wound... with the poor save he gets, you could think about it. Don't know how much it costs since I guess armybuilder isn't updated then. But on 25 points to spend, I'd certainly go for speed and strength. Keep him locked in combat, otherwise he'd be a sitting duck due to the bad save.
Spined Chaos Beasts rock. i use one in 1500 pt battles and 3 in 2000 pt. I give mine a Mark of Khorne, D.Speed and D.Resilience. Needs that extra attack because he fights on his ownusually. Speed is just awesome, he's in combat 2nd turn. 1st if your opponent wins initiative and moves forwards (the fool). Toughness of 7 means eldar and any other pesky str 3 opponents can't even hurt him. Have tried a few other configurations but this is the best i've found. Just wish they put something like this in the new codex.
