Im in a hurry so in a nutshell Im thinking about switching over from my Imperial Guard to another army and this Summer seems like the best time to do so.
So after concluding Witch Hunters may not be the best option for me, I want to see what Chaos can offer me. I played Tzeentch Chaos in Fantasy and loved it. I loved making and designing heroes and lords (something IG doesnt give me), and the close combat Viking/Pagan/Barbarian themed armies I could make from it.
I was looking on the site about the factions inside Chaos and World Eaters sound like they fit what Im going at. Close combat.
Yet now some more questions.
The next Codex is coming out in September right? Any changes for World Eaters I should know about?
How much would it cost for a 1000 point army?
I made my fantasy chaos lists fluffy. Id want to do it for this too. Can you form a succesful army without a defiler? What about without Predators, Rhinos and the Land Raider? I just dont like the defiler model and Id want a primarily infantry force. I could take Rhinos but Id prefer more numbers and by foot.
Id just want to theme it like a Barbarian type horde. I had a blast doing that in Fantasy. Its just too few are playing that now. By using the word horde Im not saying I want a huge army. Id prefer mine on the small side.
So to sum it up...
1. Can you make a World Eaters infantry force? Few vehicles, if any at all.
2. How much for 1000 points of World Eaters Chaos?
3. Are there big changes I should know about?
I'm just going to go off your sumarized questions with some of my own comments at the end, I hope that's alright.
This leads me to strongly strongly suggest you switch over to playing a Khornate Black Legion instead of playing World Eaters fluff. While not only being a more viable/versatile army selection in my eyes, this would allow you to much much more easily play an all infantry army. For 1000 points I'd think along with a Lord you could fit 2 or at most 3 Berzerker Squads with some Havocs and whatever else you wanted to fill the gap. Some popular choices (skeletons, of course, you can obviously make changes, I tried to put the upgrades on in the order of their importance, so if you've not sure what oyu want to do but you want to use these skeletons you can just chop off the last few upgrades until you're satisfied):
Dark Blade Lord, 147 points I think
Mark of Khorne, Dark Blade, Bolt Pistol, Frag Grenades, Dæmonic Speed, Dæmonic Resilience, Dæmonic Aura, Skipy Bits.
Statured Glaive Lord, 156
Mark of Khorne, Berzerker Glaive, Dæmonic Stature, Frag Grenades, Dæmonic Strength, Dæmonic Resilience, Spiky Bits
The Berzerker Formula, 8x models, 206 or 230 points with Furious Charge, assuming the Champion is not free
All Models: Mark of Khorne, Frag Grenades, Khornate Chainaxes [Furious Charge]
Champion: Power Fist, Dæmonic Mutation
Furious Charge should only be added if all Berzerker Squads have it as far as I'm concerned.
ANTI-TANK (infantry based)
Obliterators, 1-3x models, see Codex for points
TH AC Havocs, 8x Models, 224 points
Mark of Chaos Undivided, 4x Autocannons, Tank Hunting
Obviously feel free to not use these at all, these are just the most common setups I see. Hope this helps you out cheers
Back from the dead to haunt new houses.
Send me a hello if you remember me.
Thanks for the reply!
I guess not all infantry. The Dreadnought and Land Raider. The Predator I kinda like but the defiler and Rhino I do not like at all.
Numbers are always good in Chaos. I was thinking to take a Dreadnought with the duel Lascannon's I think it is and possibly the missile launcher. Yet I don't know what the missiles are used for but Id guess AT. Then suit out a Lord for AI and Khorne Berzerkers to fill in the rest.
That and I really like what you have there for Black Legion. That way I can get ranged infantry and keep it pure. Which I'm all for that too! Yet I think Id want Lascannons on the Havocs. It is for pure AT and maybe tough targets if I dont have anything like Terminators. All get enough attacks to handle numbers from the Berzerkers.
The more I think of it, I think Id be best messing with things alone at first. Im kinda strict and odd with what I will and will not field. I like Infantry and I love having one thing that 1 on 1 with anything else (shooting, close combat, either one.) I can count on it living. Chaos being very elite and outnumbered fits that a lot. The Rhino fits in with what Im going for. Acting as my Viking longboat and with that armor it fits the uber strong shooter Id want. Being able to shrug off a lot. I dont know its weapons options, but if it can take a Lascannon, Im good. Even if it can only get one, its still a consistant shot Id be able expect to be fired each turn.
All explore around. I may post again when I need further help or suggestions. Or if I need to ditch fun and fluff for a tournament. Thanks for the reply, it gave some food for thought and things I didn't even bother looking at. (Havoc's, Obliterator's, another lord, options Ive yet looked at.)
Also Im switching to Chaos 100% now. Already got a nice offer for my IG and still know of 2 others interested who I have not talked to yet.
Stellar advice from Simon there, as usual.
Just bear in mind the new codex coming into effect.
The dynamics for bezerkers are going to change, and you army will become a lot more effective and flexible through, Normal Marines, Bezerkers and Marines with the IoK (Icon of Khorne).
Exciting times for Chaos, welcome aboard.^_^
that said, is it possible to hang fire before you commit to anyhting just to make sure that you're getting the right stuff for your army?
Are there new models with the new codex? If not then the only thing all probably get is a box of Khorne Berzerkers. Because thats what I'm looking for, close combat fun! Only if new models come out will I not be wanting those.
Yes they will be changeling, but they will still be close combat monsters no?
May i Recomend a Lost and the Damned list. You can Easily Convert Your IG guarsdmen and Tanks to a valid and Cool looking Latd Army. And like the Inquistoin, you can have a Allied Choas force in there as well, so you can get the Choas marines, Possed marines, Oblierators, Demons, and above all one of the Strongest HQs in the Game.
I am doing the same. I was tickled pink when i found out i could do this. It think you will really dig out this List. Check it out and let me know what ya think.
HOWEVER.. i'd urge you not to be so superficial and consider the impact that their superior WS and also furious charge will achieve.
I am pretty sure they will be devastating. Everytime I've used normal CSM with furious charge, i've always been a bit taken about with the bloody mess they leave behing. Add extra WS and an extra attack.. and you mnight have to worry about overkilling things
I'm looking forward to using bezerkers.. with the FOC flexibility of the new codex, anything seems to be possible.
Thanks for the suggestion on the Damned list. Yet Im pretty sure that is not for me.
Im in Chaos for pure chaos.
Just as long as Khorne Berzerkers stay CC is really what I meant too.
Any word on new models? I want to know if a box of Berzerkers is safe or not.
