I'm looking at starting 1K Sons as my next army. If I do, I want to make them all true scale marines. Can you guys help me out with the basic things I need to know about a small (500pt or so) TS army? Especially any big changes with the new codex.
You are going to have a small force, probably just enough for 2 squads and an HQ. Big chnges are rumoured to be Thousand sons losing the extra wound but gaining a 5+ invul save. Also they only get 1d6 for slow and purposfull unless they have the mandatory sorcerer(unit champion) who gets a force weapon standard:w00t: and gives 2d6 for SaP.

So I'm looking at 2 TK marines squads, each with a sorceror? And then some sort of HQ?
How big are the squads probably? And what's a good HQ?
Sacred number for Tzentch is 9, though, the sacred number will likely not apply in the new codex.
A good h.q. that I've always found to be of use is something like this:
*Mark of Tzeentch
*Bolt of Change
He's only 105 points, and a very mobile tank buster.
As far as troops go, you should also be looking at thralls, two to four per squad, depending on the powers you give to your aspiring champions.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Ok. I'll keep that LT for my list then.
395 pts left...
A 9 man squad is something like 220 pts or so?
Chaos are not good at 500 points. Their game dynamic is very strange. They tend to blossom at the 1500 points level.
Additionally, 1K sons are probalby the hardest army to use effectively in the entire game.
Why is this important?
Because, to be honest, playing a 500 point game will only give you a band feeling as to what 1K sons can do or are capable of.
You know the 40K rules, ignore the 500 points level. Take a 1500 force and give 'em a blast on vassal to get a feel for the army dynamic.
See it as a kind of try before you buy routine.
Hell is full of poor gamers who see the allure of the gorgeous models only to be burned by their difficult play dynamic. I may sound bossy, but I'm just trying to help ^__^

Thanks for the help everyone!
Really, if you're going to build a 500 point force, it's best if you adapt the Combat Patrol rules to you needs. I've never understood how some people think it's appropriate to try to squeeze in a second Troops Choice for only 100 points.
Following that, you're looking at a single squad of Rubrics and an HQ of some sort - that Lt from Rabbit is good, so I'd take him.
The second thing is that you don't need the Sacred Number. Especially with 1K Sons at this points level, it's simply too restricting. Make some smaller squads, if need be.
Maybe, try something as such:
Lt. as above: 105
6x 1k Sons: 197
Champion w/ Doombolt; Power Weapon; Daemonic Strength
Pintle Combi-bolter; Extra Armour; Smoke Launchers
That leaves you some 130 odd points to play around with, and an army that can adapt extremely easy into the new Codex. That's why no Powerfist. With the left over points, you can look into some Daemons, or a Predator, or upping the squad size... whatever.
