I want to add to my Catachan Army, and I have AUD$90 (USD$79.80)or Around 30 pounds.
Commisars (I wanna see some accidents)
Heavy Weapons teams (Heavy Bolter, Lascannon, Mortar, Heavy Flamer)
Or, Breaking some rules: A Chimera, Basilkisk, etc
What ever you want really, it depends. If you want a 'pure' Catachan force (I have, with only sentinels for vehicles), then I'd invest in some more infantry, or heavy weapon squads (autocannon, or mortars). I'd also convert them up, so buy some extra items from mail order.
You shouldn't bother with ogryns, unless your converting from ogres, and will do a god job, as 'A' ogryn models are rubbish, and 'B' they are slowed by terrain (subject to difficult terrain rolls, things). The key to jungle fighters is to ambush, with lots of men, and ambush you should.
My army contains: 40 Jungle Fighters
Turntable, Do you like them as a pure army?
I still can't decide
i would suggest picking up some heavy weapons probably something to stop tanks.
The most dangerous men in the world are the ones who have nothing to lose.
Here's my suggestion.
You said you've got $90 aus... If you can scrape up an extra $4 I reccomend you get this...
Box of 20 Catachan Warriors. This is to bulk out your numbers and really teach you the meaning of being an Imperial Guard commander.
2 Boxes of Catachan Heavy Weapons. Now I'm cheap but not as cheap as a lot of people out there... Out of these 2 boxes take the missile launchers and put them on standing bodies from your warriors box. Then on your large round bases I say make up 2 autocannons.
There you go...
I love pure deathworld armies by the way
I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you
Cool, The independant retailer is 10% off, so That could be done
I do prefer a 'pure' catachan army, but never really got round to playing in a jungle (din't have the money to make, and was slowing becoming bored with warhammer). It would be brutal as an army if used correctly, esp autocannons.
If your fighting pretty much all the time in jungle, then don't bother with anti-tank, as most of the time, if you play with a good jungle, the tanks will not be doing much, and you can steer away from them most of the game (tanks in a jungle are a points sink).
I'd screw rough riders (horseman in a jungle, haha), commisars (those 'accidents' at the beginning of the game are not worth it, if you could possibly lose a fairly amount of points), but your right to go for infantry and sentinels. I have 3 platoons of 20 as my base, which is big enough for about 1.5k games, as long as you have good other stuff.
If you have sentinels have 2, not three. They have weak armour, but if you have 2, they wont be too missed, and still can have an effect on most enemies (e.g. basic ork troops as they have a strength of 3). If you can use them to get into assault wiht the main wave, or disrupt a flank whislt the rest tears away at something else.
Its good to see snipers, as I couldn't imagine a deathworld army wthout them.
One thing that is a must are catachan devils (veterans), I have two squads If you have a few points left over I'd go for a patrol force, as they can ambush the enemy and give you a bit of time, and is funny if they have three flamers. I wouldn't really use booby traps, unless you have a few extra points, and can't buy anything else, as, from little experience, they are unlikely to be activated (they are placed on a random square on the board, then the enemy triggers them I think by rolling a double one, so quite unlikely).
If you decide on rough riders (probably not the best choice out of those you mentioned- personally id go for sentinels for a catachan army) i recently converted mine by buying some boxes of Empire pistolliers and then getting some cadian sprues from the online store (catachan sprues would work as well though id imagine!) it works quite well- you just have to slightly modify the Empire legs so it doesnt look like they are armoured anymore and use the torsos, arms and legs of the IG- if you want hunting lances you probably need something like brettonian arms, or the metal rough rider lances- but for mine i just made some mobile infantry- IG who can fleet with a flamer and grenade launcher! its a suprise for your opponent i can tell you
PLAN CLAN MAN!!

i'd consider getting a leman russ and heavy weapon squad to build up your army. i wouldn't get too side tracked by shiny things like ogryns and roughiders at this stage. you need to build up a solid fire base, there's not much point building up a guard close combat army.
What about a Basilisk? Cause those look cool
