I've recently been playing against an eldar army consisting of 2 squads of rangers, a falcon grav-tank with some howling banshees, and a 4 warlock + farseer seer council all on jetbikes. I play BT and can't figure out a winning strategy. I've tried overloading with super troops and trying to obliterate his council, but almost my entire squad gets picked off by the rangers before i can get close enough. They always infiltrate onto the best vantage point so there's barely anywhere to hide from them. He uses the falcon on my tank(s) and I'm left with my HQ, and half of his squad to worry about the council and banshees where i just get plowed. any advice would be very helpful and extremely appreciated.
If you need anything clarified just ask.
I find that "Abhor the witch, destroy the witch" works wonders against Eldar and all psychic armies. The rangers can be dealt with by using maybe Sword Brethren with infiltrate(just maybe, but contesting the infiltrate grounds helps), deep strikers with flamers, or land speeders(with flamers)
About the banshees - dictate when to engage them(if they are foot slogging soften them with ranged fire ) and charge them with mass troopers(although it's risky). They have power weapons, sure, but they need 5s to wound. And remember - guide does not affect melee attacks.
If the banshees are in the falcon(well, I assume they are.) that means that there are only 6 of them(with exarch). Keep your big crusader squads close to each other. When he charges he will have 10 power weapon attacks that hit on 4+ and wound on 2+ and 3 that hit on 3+ and wound on 2+. So, number wise, you won't lose the squad/s(it will hurt) but will be able to outmass him and slaughter the banshees with 16+men and probably commanders which you should use. Not to mention that one of your squads probably charges which means around 30attacks.
Proper fire support should help you to soften them and the jet bikes(I have a lot of problems with pure jetbike armies, you can see my thread). I'd go for mass tornado(maybe a predator, depends on the points) - they are great, and if you have like 3 of them, the falcon can disable only one. The other two would be able to soften banshees/jetbikes/rangers/even the falcon.
Hope this helps. I am quite new to templars too, but the above I have tested.
Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to try that next time I play him. The infiltrating sword brethren would chew up points, but they'd work wonders on the rangers.
Only if you manage to infiltrate them in position for quick assault. Beware - if you get to infiltrate first, then he could infiltrate his rangers far away. In this case use the sword brethren as infiltrate territory denial tool, as rangers are only good when in cover. You can even specialize them in this task(although I am not sure if it's a good idea) by using the minimum size squad of 5 - that's slightly below 100pts.
Thanks for all of your help. I was thinking I might even use 2 five man sword brethren squads, hoping he infiltrates first, I deploy right behind him, and rush into cc. Although, if he also gets first turn, he could easily shoot the crap out of the brethren, but I'll try it next battle.
