Hello fellow Space Marine Commanders!
I recently started a Dark Angels army anad I have about 1500pts assembled and painted. I usually get in a few games of 40k on Saturdays at my local gaming store. Anways, I have yet to completely win a game. Ive had a few draws, but even more losses. I dont take any outrageous units or anything, with very little cheese. I'm starting to think that I'm missing some tactics in my battles. What winning tactics do you Space Marine commanders use in your battles? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone ever thought of using 100 tactical marines in a 2000 point army?
A Promise to a dead man means nothing.
Space Marines aren't exactly a horde army <_< ...
I just realized this could go in the Tactics and Strategies forum....oh well....
You dont think 100 bolter rounds +heavy weapons would work? immagine an orks face when you out number him
A Promise to a dead man means nothing.
that might work, i guess....however, i was hoping for some more traitional tactics that have been tried and have worked.
well, the "deepstrike everything on enemys ass" tactic is good... if you have lots of terminators, hug cover a bit with your normal units and then tie the enemy into assault against deepstriking terminators and charge with the rest of your army...
you can always just rhino-rush him, that usually deosnt go too bad...
what kind of army do you have?
I have a Darkk Angels army, so I know it has kind of a sit back and shoot style to it. Even with this tactic, my guys are not very successful. Often it is crappy dice rolling though....
Well, a DA army is best with plenty of firepower and a few good counter-assault units.
A nice firebase of Tactical Squads w/ plasma cannons, backed up by Devastators/tanks, with a Command Squad/Terminators and some other untis for counter-assault, you can't go wrong.
Just remember, play your strengths, don't try to outshoot Tau/IW/IG, charge them, and vice versa for assault armies.

I agree with ==Me==, grab some tac squads and throw plasma cannons in them, a 10 man devastator squad w/ a lascannon or two depending on if your opponent is going to be using tanks, maybe a predator or two. Try to have a terminator squad or two nearby to counter charge if he goes after one of your other squads.
However, if you're playing Tau or IG (IG army with multiple tanks/heavy weapon teams) don't try to shoot it out with them. Even though DA are better at shooting, theyre still space marines which means theyre more well rounded than just about any other army out there. If you have enough models, deepstrike with your deathwing terminators and maybe an assault squad or two. If you have landspeeders, use them to flank his tanks. Use Rhinos to transport your tac squads to the frontline and charge into the hand to hand fun. Also, when you deepstrike, try to go for his heavy weapon squads so they cant shoot at your advancing transports.
Hope that helped
Tactics vary depending on the foe. They also depend on what actually is in your army.
I like using landspeeders (nothing better than zooming in and using a melta to take out a tank) for dealing with vehicles; they're cheap, fast, and surprisingly difficult to kill if you use terrain.
Assault troops with jetpacks are great for dealing with troop carriers or to move in quick for a charge/counter-charge. Want to see a rhino-rush player cry? Use your ATs to block the access points of his rhinos while your LS pops it Destroyed vehicles also provide great cover.
Terminators are over-priced in many cases IMO; if you're going to use them get yourself some GKs and deepstrike them (although GKs with DAs is a bit unfluffy).
Make sure you don't neglect the power of the tactical troops: In reality, they're usually the toughest thing to kill and capable of killing a lot. Give them a melta and they can handle any tank/dreadnought/transport.
Having a predator or vindicator can help: Obviously they can do a lot of damage, but most often they're magnets for fire. That can be a good thing though. For example, rush your vindicator with extra armor forward and pop some smoke (instant hull-down). Your enemy is liable to open up with everything he's got to take it out but the odds of actually destroying it are fairly low. The next turn you can open fire or at the very least you've save the rest of your army from taking fire.
Also don't forget, losing your own vehicles can have a side benefit: You can use them as cover as you advance; only on a penetrating "6" roll are they actually removed from the board.
Use the terrain! If you're not playing with terrain, then find some real players because playing on an open field is just plain dumb.
