So yeah this unit is insane. Reason being: turbo boost + teleport homer + demon icon= 700+pts in my deployment zone by turn 2.
I mean this isn't always the case as reserves rolls can be fickle, but at t(5) and a 3+ invul, not to mention that they always deploy last and so get the best cover to ride through, they seem unstoppable.
How can you take them out fast enough to discourage the bomb?
a three plus invul is great, but even a marine like save will fail if you pump enough firepower into it. How many guys are in the squad, if its just 3 bikers, this will be no problem.
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
thanks for the tips guys
The main problem is that since they're fast attack i usually have no good fire lanes to pump a lot of shots at them. maybe there is a deployment solution to this or a new ig tactic that i haven't heard. It's just hard to face down 8 bikers turbo boosting down your flank and dropping the demon bomb in subsequent turns ( jeez if he possessed the sergeant with his blood thirster that would be pretty nasty).
just wondering if anyone has any specific tactics against this.
Somebody more eloquent than me has posted a nice tutorial with respect to the use of sacrificial units and the judicious use of spacing to ensure your weapons can come to bear against fast melee.
I'm passing out right now so I can't remember where it is.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
If you did this, you could also use a vindicare assassin, with shield breaker ammo. This way you can pick out the icon bearer, and kill him in 1 unsavable shot - the biker squad can then no longer summon demons! yay!Add an Inquisitor with those holy bolts that ignores invul saves, get him a shooty retinue and blast them to pieces
...and some people say vindicare assassins are useless...pffft
If you wanted to be really sneaky, try using one of your vehicles to aid your normal troops in sniping his icon bearer. Position a chimera between your heavy weapons (nominally, heavy bolters) and the bikers, so that only the icon bearer can be seen with a minimum of other bikers. When you open fire with your squad, the only models he can take away are those within line of sight, so hopefully he will be forced to remove his icon bearer. And maybe even the sergeant also, if you are lucky! This is seen as a sneaky, underhanded trick, however, and I don't recommend it if you want to remain friends.
Although, some people might see the biker demon-bomb tactic as also being underhanded, so its really up to you. :shifty:
Other than relying on allied army lists, or sneaky tricks, however, I think you need to worry about what to do once he actually hits your lines. Most things you use to try and stop your opponent via shooting will simply be too random - there is too good a chance he will unleash those deamonettes (or whatever) anyway.
You need to set up a decent counter assault unit or two, which can run in several ways, and you also need to be prepared to sacrifice a few units as bait.
The bait units get placed/moved slightly more than 6 inches in front of your counter assault units, so that when they get hopefully get wiped out by the frenzied chaos hordes, the hordes are left stranded in the open (or at least, thats the plan).
When this happens, you can hit him with your counter assault - for me, this consists of a crazy hth command squad, but thats slightly less than usual. Rough riders work well here, and so do ogryns, or even massed conscripts/infantry squads. More importantly, however, are the mass of rapid fire weapons you will be able to bring to bear, lots of plasma guns and ludicrous lasguns become your best weapon at moments such as these. Even flamers can be useful!
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
like i told you, basilisk first turn roll a HIT! BOOM...
or do what i did to him.. deploy are sorts of terrain to make it difficult to use this predictable tactic. (roll those 1's)
and don't let the furies hide in the assault bubble.
Space Marines -- Black Templars -- 2300pts
Imperial Guard -- Steel Legion -- 1800pts
Consider an Inquisitor with those things that let him shoot at deep strikers. Let him unleash the monsters of the warp and then blow them away!
The Bassie idea is very good, I think you can use an Inquisitor or some of the special Characters to have a better chance of getting fist turn. Three bassies and and a few inquisitors should be around the same points he spends
There is also a couple of Macharian Crosses to get to redeploy you units to get the best firelanes on the bikers. Two units of Heavy Bolters with Sharpshooters should put a fair dent in his unit.
The Assassin mentioned would also work quite well as would the Callidius, whispering a word in the biker champs ear
"Hmm, I think we really should go stand straight in front of that heavy duty fire line over there, go men, GO!"
I like rough riders. He turbo boosts into your charge range, then you can feel free to charge him with str 5, init 5 power weapons. He has no Invulnerable saves in CC. The other option is to take that turn to redeploy. If he is on the other side of a forest cutting off your LOS, just walk away from him so that any deamons that do appear can't assault right away (without a really good scatter at least).
At least lesser deamons are getting the nerf bat real soon.
