I recently decided to start my second 40K army after a few concept models I worked on I plumped for IG. I was torn between Vostroyan's and Death Korp of Krieg. I decided on Vostroyan's at the last but I have begun to wonder if I could possible incorporate Death Korp into my Vostroyan army, perhaps as an armoured fist choice??
I dont think this would really work, do you have a good fluff reason for this happening? also doctrines - wise you wouldnt be able to combine them, not legally. Consider what the models could represent in this army i.e. storm troopers perhaps with a stretch of the imagination and some GS'ing. after all storm troopers are usually trained off world from their regiments homeworld so using death corp models with their breathing apparatus might work. anyway, good luck with this.
Total 40k: >5000pts
total WFB: ~2000pts
I also enjoy good music, fine food, late night strolls on the beach and dancing in moonkin form :)
I dont see any problem with it.
In a large conflict, there will often be many varied imperial guard regiments present, from many different worlds of origin. Many of them will simply end up fighting side by side.
Also, sometimes, a truly smashed regiment will have its surviving members absorbed into another smashed regiment, and a new, third regiment will be formed.
(Although, this second option is less likely to happen with Vostroyans, who take pride in reinforcing their men with more Vostroyan soldiers in times of need). Option 1 is still fine, however.
As for doctrines, you will have to take only the choices that would make sense for both types of regiments, as you cannot take more than 5 total for your army. Still, probably not that difficult to do!
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Thanks for the advice.
As for fluff the Vostroyans are an addition to my Space Wolves Troll Hunters Task Force that have been hunting on the eastern fringes of the Imperium under Wolf Guard Battle Leader Eyestein Ori and Rune Priest Ketil Stormcrow. I planned to have the Wolves respond to a call for assistance from an Imperial task force (various units) despatched to remove a Tau presence on an Imperial World.
I am not a big Tau fan and the Vostroyans ability in cc adds well to the Wolves true grit and general skill at cc combat, once you get passed the gauntlet of Tau fire, Fire Warriors die quite satisfyingly.
Apparently I cannot use doctrines if I have a mixed force, which is kind of making think that I might do a small DKK army later on some time. As for Vostroyan doctrines what do folks think about these?
First off Mechanised, I wan't to roll into close combat as quick as, which matches my SW style, which kind of leads onto Carapace Armour, I now some think it's not worth the points but being up close and personal with bad guys like Chaos Marines means that every little helps. Hardened Fighters is a must I think, for the other two I am thinking Special Weapons (snipers), not to sure about this though, and finally Rough Riders, for support and flank protection, Cossak style.

Is there a particular fluff reason why they have to be actual Vostroyans and Death Korps rather than a regiment with uniforms that look a bit like the above?
In which case the mixed army isnt a problem doctrines-wise at all.
The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.Originally Posted by A news vendor's stand, London, June 1940
I do like both regiments, so I would probably wan't to keep them that way. My Vostroyans are being painted in winter campaign colours. No matter I'll get around to the DKK some time.
