I want to do a demon world theme and I was wondering what the best way to do so was.
That's right, llamas can parachute.
Well, it really depends what your idea of a "daemon world" is, but in my mind that generally entails some sort of blasted, drought-stricken plains of red or black rock. Dunno if that's what you're going for, but I'll toss up a link to the basing section of a cool painting site: Brush Thralls. It's actually primarily for Warmachine, but the basing stuff is pretty universal. I particularly like the slate bases idea, and the "Back to bases 3: Protectorate bases" article has some interesting ideas for a cracked plain.
A little less elaborate option is to snag some sort of modeling sand (or heck, real sand works too!), spread a layer of PVA glue over the base, and dump the sand on. Gently shake off the excess, and you should have a decent layer of the stuff over your base, which you can then prime and paint whatever color your heart desires. The main thing I'd recommend is using a mixture of different size grains, as using all of one size tends to look odd and monotonous.
Hopefully that'll get the ball rolling for you =)

My models are based on a daemonic world covered in ash, rock and lava.
For this I based them red, green stuff lava flows, pva sand and little rocks around the lava, paint base with 50/50 water/red, thickly drybrush sand black (just so that its black ash with specks of red heat underneath), then lightly drybrush shades of grey (newly fallen ash), the lava is a mix of yellow, oranges and reds painted in flowing lines with a spot or two of black (hardened lava), then the lava is 'ardcoated to give it the liquid look.
Hope that helps D:
