Does anybody use BC as assault troops?
I am thinking that I need some fast attack options, especially against Tau, to cover my APC's whilst they deliver my troops into cc, I am wondering if assault troopers would fulfill this or if land speeders would be better?
I would advise against Blood Claw Assault troops. If you want fast moving assault troops i would go for Blood Claw bikes, for the same price as an BC assault trooper you get T5, twin linker bolters and Turbo boost.
Although Land speeders are a good choice too.
Don't blood claws have like, WS 3, how silly is that?
If you call it a Missile launcher, then it'll never hit anything.
100% of people who aren't Karmoon know Saraneth is invincible.
yeah, the price is the sticker. Regular assault troops are 22 points and get melta bombs and all kinds of cool stuff. Regular marine is only 1 point more than a blood claw. I think the points for blood claws kind of suck. The WS and BS drop is a lot more of a handicap than people think (its more than 1 point of handicap)
I like blood claws, I don't let the lower WS get to me. All I really like is that you can get up to 3 power fists and you get 4 (12) attacks on the charge :w00t:. Also, if you use Logan, you can give them an extra attack.
My blood claws don't seem to do too bad, I've killed a deamon prince and wiped squads with them. I like them I'm gonna use many more.
I have two power weapons in my Rhino mounted BC unit 9 models. Power fists I have 2 in both of my GH squads.
Basically my SW are pretty much mechanised so I want something that distracts whilst I move forward.
Looking like a couple of LR's might keep the other guy busy for a bit.
I have quite a bit of experience fighting Tau with SW.
The first thing to keep in mind while playing versus Tau as a Mechanized Space Wolf force is use everything to your advantage possible. Pray alot and if you believe in luck, hope you're lucky. You better darn well make sure you have a venerable dreadnought so you increase your chance to go first.
Make sure you have OBELing scouts. They are just as effective as any other "fast attack" option that is open to you.
Blood Claw bikers are definately better than Jump Pack BCs, just make sure you use them well and don't subject them to too much fire. An invulnerable save is awesome on the turbo boost, but even a 3+ will fail you when under too much fire. Beware dangerous terrain tests as well.
Land Speeder Tornados may do well as well, but I would prefer to get the Tau into close combat, not just depend on shootiness, beside the fact that the first thing to shoot at your LST is probably going to down it.
The first rule of fighting Tau is get in their face. I don't recommend Rhino rushing them unless you have your Rhinos (and the packs therein) slotted as meatshields for the rest of your force. Insteaad, consider drop podding in. That definately takes the fight right into the fact of the Tau. Consider it.
But yes, I agree with those who have already posted, along with the OBELing scouts, which are an ABSOLUTE must, blood claw bikers are your best bet.
And don't worry too much about the BC deficiencies in BS and WS. They aren't made to shoot anyway. They're made to charge and (with a pack size of, lets say, 12) level 48 attacks on the enemy, 12 of which will be powerfist attacks. They hit like normal, but are hit a little easier than a regular marine, but hey, that is 48 attacks and 3 power fists . . . They are well worth the points as long as you don't consider them the backbone of the army. They are shock troops; let the grey hunters be your backbone.

What are OBEling scouts?
I haven't worked on my scouts yet but I did consider sniper rifles, a bit strange for SW, but perhaps an unwelcome surprise since most of my force is cc orientated.
The get to come in like reserves but on your opponents side. Don't do snipers with them, you want anti-tank. Give'em a tasty melta gun. They love to see their devil fish blow up and then get the crew swallowed up by a few models.
That is, OBEL is an option for Wolf Scouts. Anti-tank is one good way to kit them but not the only one.
BC bikers are a very good idea to support your mechanized troops. Don't worry too much about their lower stats. WS3 is bad against troops with WS4 (other marines mostly) but against Tau you won't notice the difference. Besides, as long as you're charging their Berserk Charge special rule makes it everything good. For you that is... As for BS3, it's not too much of a problem as they're not meant for shooting. But don't underestimate them. BS3 might not be as good as 4 but when you're firing 10 pistols it still hurts. And bikers are even better off, anyone but orks can shoot well when they've got twin-linked bolters.
