I've been looking at the IG codex and have frequently been seeing snipers in the special weapons squads and last chancers. Other then the ratlings, does anyone use them?
When goblins blow themselves up its stupidity. But when humans blow themselves up its bravery....odd isn't it
I've been playing IG for around a year and I find that it's useful to have one or two snipers for taking out independent units, such as a Daemonhost for example.
No matter the race
He who sheds blood with me here today
Shall be my kinsmen eternal
Forged in battle and bonded in blood
With oaths of friendship and loyalty
As long as our races shall last
Ive just added a few to my army cant wait to use them
i find them useless unless there's at least a handful of snipers

they're ok and they give a force a bit of character

I once played cityfight with 10 ratlings, a couple of death-world snipers (codex catachan) and two special weapon teams with sniperrifles, funny but it didn't win me the game.
To use Schaeffer's last chancers as snipers is wasting a good BS4, better to give them a (mastercrafted ) lascannon (89% hit chance).
Sorry but you can not mastercraft anything a chancer has.

hhmmm, I reckon snipers could come in kinda handy if ...
Say you fielded two special weapons squads in your IG army. Now in each of those squads made up of six guardsmen, up to 3 of the guardsmen can carry special weapons ( at a cost ofcourse ).
Now, let's say you kitted out 3 of the guardsmen from each squad with sniper rifles - that's 6 snipers at your disposal. I plan to use this in my IG army, here's why ...
My HQ is kitted out to the teeth with upgrades which have cost me a lot of points. Now, I don't want to lose my HQ fast due to their victory points value to the enemy so ...what I plan to do is. Have both my special weapons squads relatively near my HQ so if my opponent starts to send troops in their direction I can hopefully halt the attackers by pinning them with the snipers ( just infront of the HQ so I can then attack with the nasty HQ ) aswell as start picking them off with the snipers. Now you can't always rely on a single sniper to do the job hence why I will be using 6 to up my chances of this plan working hehe.
I could go into more tactical detail about my cunning plans but unfortunately one of my kids has just woken up so I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
if you were playing a shooty imperial guard regiment, then wouldn't the sniper be awsome? think about it. You could pin any one just before they get into assault! pin them within 2' or even 1' and even the lasguns of your guardsmen will rape them. Since sniper rifles allways hit on a 2+, and allways wound on a 4+, 2 or 3 sniper rifles just about garantees a squad has to make a pinnnig test
You have to remember that on average everybody passes pinning tests. You have to force them to make lots of tests. 3-4 sniper squads would do it. Snipers combined with bassilisks would. But dont cout on a squad being pinned. Treat it as a bonus.
