k all i have been working on my DA army (dark angels) and have hit a bit of a snag my question is what type of tank do i use and ho do i use it? the land raider seems like the superior tank but the predator is loads cheaper point wise and the book says that it is the main battle tank so which is better? I am still a newb and so i dont really know this stuff yet so yeah any help will be appreciated.
i personally wud go for the Predator, at its cheaper and allows me to field sumthing else
but it depends wht kinda role ur looking for ur tank, are u wanting to sit and shoot? (predator) or are u wanting to carry a squad of sum sort? (landraider) but i think landraider is cool, specially as it can sit in the open without much fear of being a smoking crater next turn
but i think the twin-linked lascannons are a bit of a waste seeing as its a transport, so predator allows u to choose anti-infantry or anti-tank or a mix
(of course, theres always the crusader, but i dnt know if DA can use them? :s)
sorry if rhi doesnt help :p

Yes DA can have a crusader. Land Rider is cool, but 2 predators can do a lot more for the same price. I use two predators with autocannons, heavy bolters, storm bolters, extra armour and dozer blades as my main antyinfantry fire power. They cost 240 points and are worth their weight in gold. Sometimes I take a crusader to carry my terminators, but only in big games, above 1.5k.

well the thing is i need tanks that can handle other armor while still being able to sit and take a pounding due to the DA's tactic of sitting and shooting, they also need to be able to keep squads away so melta bombs cant be placed on them. they dont have to be totally self reliant but definatly decent.
With the release of the latest codex, dark angels are no longer a sit back and shoot army. thry can do it, but there other options available to them. Just thought i'd tell you that if it helps you make your decision.
If your going to sit still and pound some one, Devestators armed with missle launchers are a versitile choice. They can use cover and never worry about being shaken or stunned.
If you want mobile heavy firepower that can project force into areas your Devestators cannot hit, then consider tanks for the job.
Predators come in three types:
1) Good against infantry. (Basic Predator w/heavy bolters)
2) Good against armor. (Upgraded Predator w/las cannons)
3) A mix. (Las cannon turret w/hvy bolters)
Options 1 and 3 can move 6" and fire everthing. Option 2 must stand still.
Tanks can also act as screens to prevent other friendly units from being targeted, and can tank shock enemy infantry or lesser vehicles. Even when dead, thier broken hulls can be used as cover by your infantry.
The Preds offer exceptional firepower for the price. You'd be mad not to use two instead of one LR - unless you have plans to transport an IC + command or vet squad around of course. To be honest it's a bit difficult to definatively say which is best as so much will depend on the rest of your army.

Crud. Double Post.
The Predator is a much finer choice over the Land Raider Crusader in smaller games. You can easily fit three Predator Destructors with Heavy Bolters at 95 points into a 1500 list.
Consider predators more, as they aren't as big a target as Land Raider often is.
