i was just wondering how you guys and gals arm you canoness? Is there a preferred way you arm them? Is it based upon who you play? What if its for a tourney?
"Ah, but the truth is like an expensive whore, Jerek. She comes in many dresses and will bend over for any with the money to pamper her." ~ Konrad von Carstein
My tourney list is Eviscerator, Bolt Pistol, Cloak of St Aspira, JumpPack, BoSL, which is pretty bog standard. For everything else I prefer blessed weapon + inferno pistol.
Personally I like the Jump Pack, Cloak, Blessed Weapon and Inferno Pistol. I sometimes switch the IP out for a regular bolt pistol, depending on my mood. But I love. If you throw a lot of faith into her, you can potentially take on some High T beasties: get that Invulnerable save coupled with increased Initiative. The potential for 4 ST5 I6 attacks is fairly powerful. Downside is, well it eats faith. Now if they only made the Blessed Weapon 1 handed so you could get another attack in there.
The Eviscerator Cannoness is another standard layout, especially w/ and IP and Jump Pack. She is a good solo tank hunter and can handle high Wound/High T creatures. With an appropriate act of faith, she can get to STR 8. Downside is, with an eviscerator (and the act) she strikes last. But couple that with the Invuln save and she has the potential to last a few rounds of fighting.
If you win games against Nids with flamers (aside from the Inferno Cannon on a Hellhound), you're playing against opponents with stupidity of impressive magnitude.
I don't think there's any wrong answers.
She does many things well, except she doesn't like crowds.
(MY) MOST COMMON EQUIPMENT:
Blessed Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Jump Pack, Cloak, Frags
Following that comes Evisverator (Sometimes MC'd), Inferno Pistol.
Power Weapon and Storm Bolter sometimes.
Rarely (but not never), I give her Plasma Pistol, Auspex, and Brazier.
I keep telling myself that I'm going to give her a Master-Crafted Combi-Bolter-Melta someday. That has not happened, but I do have a nice model for it.
Lately, I've been using the Mantle of Ophelia, especially when you want her to kill monsters. In addition, the growing numbers of Assault Cannons makes the Mantle more important than it used to be.
MOST COMMON MISTAKE:
Throwing her at Crowds. Throw a lot of attacks at her, and she dies.
However, I should point out that if you read Pile-in carefully, it does not say, "cup your hands and push everything together in a tight bunch". Most of my shop still does that.
The key condition to focus upon is "models that are not engaged", are the only ones that
are allowed the Pile-In move. You can do "the cupping method" if you want, and it's fast, but the rules are on your side if you don't want to do it this way. Your Cannoness will thank you for it.
"Engaged" is a term that is specifically defined (page # not in front of me now, but you'll find it). Only unengaged models may use the pile-in move. (Don't hesitate to cross-check this for yourself.) SOMETIMES, and IC will find himself "engaged" but not in B2B contact, and he will not be able to pile-in, because he is no longer a "unit" when that moment arrives. (This is specifically mentioned in the 4th Ed FAQ). So he can potentially be left "stranded" and unable to fight in the following CC round. This might be the difference between you needing Spirit, and not needing Spirit in the following CC round. That's a big deal, if you ask me.
Another common rule-break, is using Pile-in to move models more than 6", or to move them through friendly models. Both are illegal.
I took the time to mention these techniques because they can matter just as much as the equipment that you give her. They really help crowd-control.
Sisters Repentia: Wow what beautiful models! Wow what terrible rules! -stjohn70
Yeah it is pretty much standard practice to equip her with Jump Pack, Blessed weapon, bolt pistol, cloak of st. aspira, and grenades.
I myself plan on using an Allied Canoness for Daemonhunters. Mantle, Jump Pack, Evis, Inferno Pistol, and Litanies.... specifically for assassinating characters/big Gribblies and hunting armour- she will hog all the faith for herself
