I've admittedly never played against an IG army thats below 1500 points, so I'm really lost on this one; what do IG players usually take at this small points limit? I'm pretty curious since I was planning to get some IG models as my DH Allies
you can go vehicle heavy or infantry heavy both work well but i would suggest having at least 1 leman russ because ordanance is the guard's strong suit we have the best ordanance vehicles
At 1000 pts, I have found that keeping it simple is the best route. Forget the doctrines, the points you spend on those can add up to another complete squad.
I usually take the JO with the Honorius Imperialis, which gives the JO the stats of the HSO and still points cheaper. I take an anti tank support squad and an autocannon fire support squad.
His HQ squad consist of a missile laucher team. The other 2 guards with lasguns.
Both the platoon HQ has a missile laucher team and a bolter JO with the other 2 guards with lasgun.
Then each platoon takes 3 squads and again being simple, no special weapons in the squads and they each take a heavy bolter.
Then I have 3 sentinels armed with a autocannon and the other 2 with mulit lasers.
And finally, the leman russ with a hull lascannon and heavy bolters side sponsons and get one upgrade for it....the improved comm.
This will give you about 90 guys on the board and a leman russ with sentinels.
The tactic....park the leman in the back field, hulled down with the best LoS as possible, the fire support squad with its own firing lane with the best LoS and the anti tank squad, try putting it down after the opposition has put down all the heavies and place it so that you have a clear shot at the one you want to take down first. Then place your platoons to support these above 3. Now you want to get first turn and you have improved your odds at doing that if you had the improved comm bought on the leman russ.....it allows you to reroll for the first turn :-)
If you get the first turn, pop the target with you lascannons and take them down one unit at a time.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
